Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None O.k., I watched Lemans over the weekend and got the bug for my own Gulf 917k. Now I didn't want to pay ebay prices for a McQueen car so...... I picked up a Fast kit for 36 bucks. Bought some testors light blue in a can and picked up a set of Jim Heller decals. This will be my weekend project. Hopefully it will come out decently and I won't let myself down. Has anyone else gone this route and done their own livery on a 917 (Gulf or otherwise)? If so, please post what ya came up with! QC

So far Testors light blue is close and I've seen a "grabber" blue that is light but not quite Gulf blue.. Help!!!! QC

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Lee Wright (listerstorm) posted what he used in painter's corner when it first opened, but I can't find the link now. I believe one of the two choices he recommended was Duplicolor Ford Light Blue and the other was a Rustoleum (I think) but can't remember the name... Nassau Blue...? If I were you and it was important, I'd pm him and ask. There is no better authority on painting Gulf blue. The man is delightfully insane when it comes to reproducing Gulf colors. Greg

I did a search on ebay for dupli color and found a great match for the Gulf blue.. Awesome! You are right about Lee. Don't know why I didn't think of contacting the master "Gulfsmen"! QC

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Well I tried the Duplicolor light blue and it was close but not quite right. I then sprayed over the duplicolor with a light dusting of Tamiya light blue....Perfect!!!!! Man, I love Tamiya paint. I've now done to additional coats and will do the third tonight. Jim Hellers Gulf decals arrived last week and I think I'll be ready to apply them by Saturday. This is turning pretty well so far. The decal application will be tricky is some places, so keep your fingers crossed. I'm buying a digital camera today, finally, so hopefully I can post pictures next week. I'm also starting a Matra 650 resin bodied project this weekend too. QC
