Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I've really been enjoying what SCX is putting out here and they've actually started to become a favorite of mine. The problem? Their motors, whether it be the RX-41's or the new RX-42B's... they just don't seem to last. I've gone thru getting them broken in properly when I buy a new car, but after some good racing a few times the windings unravel the motor slows down then goes up in a wisp of smoke. From the Dome Judd, the new Corvette, and a DTM car with the RX-42 (older one) My Scalextric's run forever and I have no other problems with any other manufactor's motors, it just seems to be SCX's. Anyone have any idea? Running Parma 25's and a Samlex power supply @13.8. Matthew Shelf queens...I've heard of those, but I bought it to race it, not look at it.

A good thing to do to safeguard against this when prepping an SCX motor for competition is to spray a little bit of clear coat over the windings to help keep everything as it should be.... Just tape up the comm and bearing end of the shaft with masking tape (you will have to clean off the tape residue when you're done) and hit the windings with something like Tamiya clearcoat (same as what you would use for painting bodies). Dont go too heavy, just a couple of nice light even coats will do the job nicely. I learnt a lot about setting up SCX models from my buddy Phil Wicks (Slotcar Outhouse), Phil has been racing this brand of model against more favoured makes (Sclaextric/Fly etc) for years now and always seems to come in at the top of the leaderboard on club days Later, Rupert.... I've emailed him again as far as is there anyway I can get at-least *one* RX-42B replacement motor for my Vette?! This was my final (?) email from him. I even mentioned how another guy (Rupert) had seen the same issue. Maybe I'll hear something in a day or so from him on this. To quote him: We have over 100K motors made yearly with very little failure, you could have had some bad motors sorry. I have witnessed two out of about 20 cars have motor problems. I know for a fact that these motors had been manipulated with the most common factor being the use of voodoo drops. I know other things that may have contributed also but of all the racers who have pulled their cars out of the box and run them the only ones here with the problems are the people who have massaged the motors in theirs. I just don't think the SCX motors like to be molested. Just my two cents.

And yes, the cars were bought new and within the past 2 years. I explained I wasn't trying to just get motors as back ups or anything, I really needed 2 motors for 2 cars that were both victims of the same thing, motors unwinding. As far as "adding" anything, all I do is break in the motor at low voltage, oil the bushings and the ends of the motors. I mean between me knowing about this happening, apparently from the responses from others here just now, this isn't just a freak thing. Will this deter me from buying SCX's ... uh, NOPE! They're still just cool cars! If Bryan from SCX ever comes around here, he has my thanks and appreciation! Matthew Shelf queens...I've heard of those, but I bought it to race it, not look at it.
