Lighted Citgo Billboard on the Layout |
Lead | |
|
You might have seen I had this coming in my "Billboard" thread. Here it is. I still have to find a place for it and figure how I want to mount it but
it's really cool. You can set it to have the lights work a bunch of different patterns. I just recorded some of them. It looks a lot better than it
recorded too. Being so close to it must have tricked the camcorder somewhat. The file is 30meg. You'll probably be better off to rt click and save target
as and open it from your computer.

I built a "Roof" to put over the top of the roof on one of my old school control towers and installed the Sign on it. Here's the video of what it
looks like on my cpu desk. You'll see what it looks like on the track when I do my new videos of the layout this weekend.

I had to feel my way through building the "framework" to hold the Billboard, electronics and battery pack. It's here in pictures on my site

I've got 16 of these Lionel Dbl Spotlights. I've decided to cut the bases off some of them and slide them into either brass or styrene tube, drill a hole in the roofs and seats of some grandstands and put them through the holes. I can cut the length of the tube to set the height of the spots so that they point right on the track(the angle of the lights is not adjustable). I'm also going to get away without running the wiring under the benchwork for the ones on this end. it can run right around the back of the safety walls. I like the thought that my layout is so long and thin, that I can run part in the dark and the other end in the light.

I got some Evergreen styrene tube that the light pole would fit insde so it would reach all the way to the ground from above the roof of the grandstand. I
was lucky, they were 14" long and 7" was just right for the length, giving me 2 pieces from each. All I need to do is paint them Gloss Black and
they're ready to put in the hole I drilled in the corner where the loudspeaker was. I have 5 grandstands on the far end. I think I'll put Spotlights on
the outside of the 2 end grandstands pointing down the straights and spots on each corner of the center of the middle grandstand and point them on the turn.
