Yep its something like 5:1 water:white glue mix. A little dish soap or alcohol is added to lower the surface tension and help "spread" the water.

You can buy the stuff already mixed if you are so inclined. Woodland Scenic's sells it along with the spray nozzle designed to fit their bottles of spray
scenic cement. Just as a side comment I have also used hair spray on various scenery projects.

If you're using it to seal ground cover, 5to1 is the way to go with cheap white glue from the dollar store rick. Soak your stuff good. It'll dry clear.
When you're done, take the sprayer part out of the bottle and stick it in a soda bottle and pump clear water through it to clean it out. Scroll towards the

I like to use Mod Podge Matte-Mat adhesive. It is a waterbased PVA adhesive, like all the other white glues, but the dried surface (wherever it shows) is a lot
closer to being matte. It's not a total dead flat, but a lot less shiny than the standard white glues. I got the tip from a model train scenery forum
website. I get the stuff from Michael's Craft store. It's a national chain store which is, generally speaking, highly over priced but they run either
40% or 50% off coupons for 1 item in the Sunday newspapers. I take them at their word and take my coupon and only buy one item. Be forewarned though, if you
are a guy, you will be the only guy in the place. Most of the chicks look at you "funny". It's not like an auto parts store!
For finish work on tree foliage, etc, I actually sprang for the bucks and bought Scenic Express "Matte Medium" concentrate. It's a little more "non glossy", and you can dilute it 4:1 for general scenery work... If you are building trees and applying foliage, it can be diluted 7:1. So a $5 dollar pint actually makes a gallon of cement. I urge anyone who is even contemplating scenery to get the "on paper" version of the Scenic Express catalog. The have all the Woodland Scenics stuff, plus a whole lot more. It's free and takes about a week to get after a request. www.scenicexpress.com

what you do is paint the under coat like green or brown then spray or brush on the scene cement (white glue cut with water and a drop of dish soap) then you
sprinkle on the grassy stuff then you spray the scene cement over everything
also you spray it on the rocks when you don't want you paint colors to run together I just posted the work in a new tread "my first try at scenery"

If you go here
http://www.woodlandscenics.com/index.cfm and move your mouse over "information" you'll see "instructions"/ Scenic cement is one of them. Keep in mind all their cement is is white glue in different mixtures of water/glue. If you go to my website and browse through the pages(Sorry, but I'm not going to take the time right now to find which ones they are) there are 4 or 5 scattered through there with scenery stuff on them. There's a ton of stuff on the Woodland Scenics site. There's a link to my site under my signature. |

Hi all,
Neat thread ... stuff from Hobby Lobby, similar to Michaels. Hobby Lobby is the more assertive of the two, price wise. They have aggressive sales going on all the time, just bought some mats from them, last week bought some foamcore, have gear and such to do custom framing, 3-D mat cuts, stuff like that of high end prints done by Robert Blue, another little hobby fooled with. If you have one near you, check it out, it is worth it, especially when running sales. They also sell car models, paint, model railroad supplies, pine car, balsa, all sorts of stuff. No, don't own their stock, only reason making "noise" is that it is primarily a women's store.
So, many of you may not know, they also sell goodies you may be able to use.
BYW, having mentioned foamcore, it is neat stuff to build buildings from, and do many other things slot scenery wise. Comes in 32 x 40 inches, as well
as, say 20 x 30 inches, various thicknesses. Nice thing about foamcore, is that after you say, cut out a "window," what have you. It has
built in memory, so always comes back to original thickness, surface level remaining flat. Assume most already know about foamcore, still one, or two
may not.
Even have built RC planes out of the stuff. Since, you can cut just "slightly" through one side, and bend it over into the cut, and make a nice smooth curved 90-degree corner, or 45-degree corner, or . . . Slice one side "multiple" times and can make a slower, longer curve, depending on distance between slices. With practice can make compound curves, and . . . This is getting way long . . . Anyway, Hobby Lobby has Mod Podge regular sale price 8 ounces for $4.27, and 16 ounces for $5.99, don't ask . . . Use decent amount of it for one of my other "hobbies," so am price concious. Moreover, it is great stuff, be sure and check container, also comes in satin and gloss. As for application, just follow directions. You didn't mention inclusive, whether trees, or land, or grass base . . . Google to any number of HO train sites, they have a zillion precise, actual means of doing anything scenery. Cheers,
