If Shakespeare were alive today and was a race fan I believe he would have worded that infamous line to be "Kill all the aerodynamicists"...
The Porsche, Ferrari, and Lola (and all the prototypes of that era) are just timeless in their design...modern LMP's (and especially in F1) with all those tacked on aero devices are indeed faster, but there's no beauty there.

Wow, they stuck the Fly Ferrari wheels on the 917 Porsche! Looks good though... QC

Only thing they failed to do was cut out the inside of the triangles which wouldnt have been easy and likely would have made for a more breakable wheel. I'd say given the fairly 'accurate likeness' the wheels do the job nicely!

Paul, there are several 917's with those gold wheels. The Lucky Strike car, the wine car, and I think the road car. They can look pretty good, but they definitely make you stop and take a look -- some like 'em, some don't. Bruce, you're so right about modern aerodynamics. Nobody builds a race car to be pretty any more, it's all about the function. When you look back
at what Jim Hall was doing in the 60's, aerodynamic experimentation led to some of the coolest cars ever! But over the years, the process for refining
aerodynamic shapes has led to repeated shapes that get boring after a while. Part of it is thanks to Colin Chapman refining what Jim Hall started -- ground
effects. When the designers get much of the downforce they need underneath the chassis, all they want to do is lower the coefficient of drag on the body, and
that shape keeps repeating with teardrop canopies. Designers can experiment with a lot of things, but have to keep going back to that canopy. Along with the
realization that putting the motor behind the driver is really the only way to do it, the shape is almost pre-determined except for the smaller details.

But, they are the same wheels they use on the Ferrari's, right? like I said, they do look good. Especially set against the green paint job on the 917. Very
nice.... QC
