I just joined last night. I am very pleased to have some instant response. I was afraid nobody would notice me. I will answer each inquiry for all my posts. It's like having a room full of slot racers at my house. I will not ignore even a passing comment. That's the underlying concept of forums, right? And, in my view, anyone who replies is soliciting a comment or info. I will no doubt face a discouraging word occasionally, but I will not suffer malevalence quietly. My dear old departed mother used to admonish me with " if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I have forty years of slot racing behind me. Too bad forty aren't remaining. I have an opinion about EVERYTHING and I am not bashful. I can show you stuff that is pseudo-secret or forgotten and help with track design and construction tips. Scenery and pimping my rides takes up most of my time with this hobby. Mainly because racers are in short supply in these parts. Forums such as this fill some gaps in racing. And, I hate to admit it, but there are people here a lot smarter than me from whom I can learn newer stuff....digital, yeah, man!

1. founja, Eggy. I just heard the postman, let me go check for the parts. Nope, not today. The software is a freeware 3D modeling program created specially for constructing cars for computer games. Zmodeler V.1.07b is my choice. There is a newer Zmod2, but I never use it. I am hooked on Need for Speed. I made a slew of cars for NFS4, mostly muscle cars. If any of you have the game and want to race a Studebaker, NFS streetdogs has my Avanti for download. It is the only Studebaker in their downloads. I merely photograph any object from orthogonal views and use them as blueprints in Zmod. Front, back and side is all I need, though a top view is helpful. Then, a wireframe is wrapped around the pictures in different directions in each view port until a car appears. Magic. I did a Lionel train design for my grandson in 3D a couple years ago. Worked out great, so I figured slot tracks and train layouts are similar which led me to the posted design rendering. If the track looks real, it's because the sections were photographed for blueprints and texture mapping.Actual medium resolution pictures of the track were "painted" on the model by Zmod UV mapping.

2. What's up, Barfly...nice to feel welcome...do you have any more questions after reading number 1? The program is free. Do you want me to send you a zip file? You can do it within one hour of practice, believe me. I found easy ways to do it. I can even send you one of my tutorials.

3. TJ, where is Jimmie, really? Come on, you can tell us. I hooked the wireless tv receiver to a VCR/DVD combo and recorded some laps on a DVD that XP refuses to play or export to uploadable format. I downloaded a "free" DVD ripper and produced a flickery, grainy .avi mess with "UNREGISTERED VERSION" on top of every frame in big letters that obscure the movie It's crap not worth viewing. Any ideas?

4. Oldrookie, is that like giant pigmy? I suspect you are indeed no rookie. And will you agree with me that old age and treachery will always win out over youth and enthusiasm? I have been alive since 1949, can you top that? My work falls just shy of fantastic as I mentioned, anyone can do it in an hour. I have a handcrafted 1.2 gHz AMD Athlon 3D Now, MMX, 160 gig HD, 256 megs of DDR, Asus 128 meg video. The wireless tv camera package is Swann Micro Cam 3.3 from Radio Shack. $119. Transmits 300 feet, four channels. I assume you read about the software above. Any more questions?

5. Cjent, thanks for the compliment, I enjoy showing off. I have been into CAD since 1978. I will now confess to the world in this forum that the modeling of the track is hastily slung together with low level of detail, low poly count and no normals editing. Zooming in the wireframe will disclose minor construction flaws Any professional 3D artist will perceive this work as primitive. Who is PM?
