Inexpensive Power for Artin and controller question

Posts: 3 (03/25/08 09:32 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None To make a long story short about 4 yrs ago I sent off my stock Artin power strips and had all 4 4- lane strips wired so one strip would only run 1 lane and I could spread them out and all custom wired for brakes and plug in's , I had every intention of setting up a large four lane road course. But before I got the chance we moved and all my stuff has been in storage. I am getting the bug again but never bought a power source for it or controllers. I have enough track to make a very large 4-lane ,But I forgot all the tech stuff about what to hook up power wise and for controllers as far as ohm. I still have all the stock artin power units but they will not plug in now due to the mods done to it. So my Question is ,What is a inexpensive way to run power to it to just get started, and what ohm controllers should I be looking to buy. I have been out for awhile now and feel like I have been in a coma and just woke up there is so much new stuff out there now.Diital artin was just being talked about when I dropped out but not yet for sale. Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	No idea what mods you did that would prevent the stock power supplies from plugging in, but if you removed the receptacles that would explain it. In any case, whatever you did to provide an after market supply to be used should provide connections for the stock supplies. Just cut off the plugs and wire directly to your power connection mods on the start track sections. Each 4 lane supply has 2 plugs, so you could possibly use just 2 of them to power all 4 lanes. As for controller ohms, I like 25 ohms. Others prefer 35 or 45 ohms. It's really a personal thing based on the cars you run and what kind of response you like. dennis

Posts: 4 (03/26/08 12:34 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Whom ever did it for me I think he was on this board, I think a guy named Brian Maybe .It left each one of my four lane power strips with 3-plugs in the front(red,blk,wht) and each one also has a red & black wire from under it for a power hook-up.It was the thing to do at the time and very clean and Profesional looking( almost factory ). I just run stock cars from Fly.Scalxtric,Carerra,ninco ect. with no mods. Just me and my kids. But what would be a good power source Cheap.I could hook-up to it.Thanks

The best price on power supplies is from etronics.com. The PS-7KX is rated at 5 amps which is plenty of power for a 2 lane track and the PS-12KX is rated at 12 amps which is perfect for a 4 lane track. These are fixed voltage power supplies rated at 13.8 vdc. If you want an adjustable voltage power supply. I recommend the PS-26KX. The adjustable voltage power supply are good for turning down the voltage for beginners or racing some cars without the traction magnet. The cars are easier to drive at around 12 volts. The Pyramid power supplies are really well made and offer much improved performance over the stock Artin power supply. All you have to do is combine the 4 red power leads and hook them up to the positive post of the power supply. Then combine the 4 negative power leads and hook them up to the negative post of the power supply. As far as controllers, the 35 ohm Parma controllers are the best for driving most 1/32 slot cars.
