Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I posted a question about Paypal/Money orders in the "Buy/Sell/Trade" forum. Here's one for here. It has to do with trust. I just got through explaining to my 25 year old son what it means to have earned Respect and Trust by the time you become a man. I'm talking about a person who has established himself in a forum community(doesn't have to be me). Here are the questions I pose. 1. When you do a "Trade" why is it sometimes the other guy waits until he gets your part of the deal before he sends his part. 2. When you have made numerous private purchases from the same person, do they have to wait until they get paid before they ship it. The reason I ask the first question is as soon as I agree to a trade, my 1/2 of the deal goes out the next time my mail lady comes(love that USPS online thingie) The reason I ask the second question is I just bought 2 cars from a guy, only the second time I've dealt with this guy, I asked if he could hold the cars till next week for me and he said yes not to worry, he would send them to me today. Turns out he won't need to wait. His money is on the way now. Does anybody see what I'm trying to say? I'm not trying to stir anything up here so please don't anyone I've had dealings with take offence. It took a lot for me to relearn how to trust over the last 40 years. Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	In answer to your initial question and comment - it has to do with trust and the lack thereof. If a mutual trade agrrement is made, then neither party should with hold shipment - to me that is wrong and not a "fair" trade. After making numerous purchases from the same person then the strict, hard-fast rules should be relaxed a bit. Repeat customers are the gold of any business. It can be expensive trusting people - especially through on-line purchases / sales. The way it works at Ranch Design for customers that are buying for the first few times: when the order is in shipment and the invoice is received, then it is payment time - not before and not after. Once a good relationship is developed, the trust issue should come naturally. If it doesn't, and it is of no consequence to either party, then that is the way business is conducted. I personally find it hard to be a repeat customer to a business that is cold to the customer(s) and only want to sell product. Burn me once - shame on you. Burn me twice - shame on me!

I look at it similarly but perhaps different. I look at the initial offer (by you or me say) as the setting of the contract. So, I say: "Hey folks, I have cars to trade and long standing member here with good feedback on ebay. Since I may not know you and all, I will wait for payment/cars to arrive and I will send out immediately upon receipt (with tons of tracking, emails, communication, etc.)." So, for those who don't like that kind of setting of expectations at the outset, that's fine they can avoid me. If they trust me, they can enter into the deal. Similarly, I could also say I will ship once we agree to make a deal. It's all the same. So, for your Bill, I think I will demand you send me all you Fly Corvettes as a show of good faith and I will ship them all back to you with the extra cars you agreed to buy...just as soon as I test all of those Corvettes on my track!!!! I guess that comes from 30 years as an Auditor. I just spent some time conversing with Liberty about a couple of chassis. Due to a set back I had to go from three to two. I sent several e-mails asking what the price would be so that I could set back the money. Before I knew it, there was an e-mail that two chassis were in the mail. A couple of days later they arrived. I had not send one red cent. That is pure trust. Liberty, this is no gag. "The check is in the mail". Thank you, I needed to have my belief in my fellow man reaffirmed. I also like to use the same shipping as the person I traded with: they use Priority, then so do I. I also expect to be notified with a tracking number, as that is what I do. I hate it when you trade with someone, ship the car to them Priority, then wait a week because they sent their half of the trade by slowboat from China. If I'm selling a car, it goes out when I get the money. Dealing with people on eBay has pounded that lesson home for me. Has nothing to do with trust really... its just how 'business is done' in my mind. For trades its different... I send the car as soon as I can after agreeing to the deal. I'll be honest though and admit that I ocassionaly don't ship cars as quick as I would like being 1) lazy by nature and 2) often very busy. That ticks folks off when they think they've got the first offer in , only to hear about someone on another board getting it. I've done tons of trades and had ZERO problems. 2) I communicate upfront with my traders - ie: when it will ship, etc. 3) Due to it being a trade, I don't wait for the other half to arrive. If we made an agreement to trade, it goes out as soon as I get to the USPS, which is usually the next day or two, and again I tell them that. 4) For people I've sold to here, I still require money up front. This is a normal transaction, just like if I'd sold it on eBay. I've had zero complaints about handling things that way either. David Reinecke MotorSports - RMS Resins Chevelles and slots!

I think it is only when both parties have received the items and are satisfied, in other words if either is unhappy the trade could be undone so it doesn't matter who gets what and when.

I've stored a couple of names over the years of guys I won't do trades with anymore but most of those names have left the slot circle and I haven't had to worry about them. I don't think I have ever agreed to trade under the idea that we can swap back if either is unhappy. I'm honest about what I offer as to its condition and have never had anyone want to send me something back. If I get something in trade that isn't as I was made to think it is I make a note of that trader and move on. " If you can't beat em'.... beat ON them!" I've never gone back or complained about a purchase from a private party either. Even if after I receive the car, it turns out to be less than of a party than I'd hoped for. I kind of figure that it's a lot like buying a used 1:1 car. Regardless of what the anxious seller tells you, they ain't selling the car because they happy with it beyond description. The used car business trade motto is: "You do the best you can with what you got". But, I also file away, in the back of my mind, who I do and don't enjoy doing business with, and use that as a qualifier when considering future purchases. Greg
