Looking for an easy "How To" for lap timing system

I would like to know if someone has an easy (and inexpensive) "how to" for setting up a lap timer system for a Artin 4-lane, from start to finish. Light bridge or something is fine, to actually hooking it to the computer. If someone has this information, and pictures (?), I would (as I always am) very appreciative for the help! Needing to get this set-up pretty quick so I can start hosting races at my track. Thanks again, Matthew Shelf queens...I've heard of those, but I bought it to race it, not look at it.

Bridges cause loss of line of sight and limit what height cars you can run. Also, the bridges we have in our club have issues with Formula 1 cars and other open wheel cars. Just my $0.02 Vince MGPMRC

Reed switches are more reliable than photocells. Looking at dead strips they look to be even more reliable. I am thinking of testing these myself. Whatever you use make sure that the software has the ability to not record a second impulse in under a certain number of seconds. My rule is to take the current lap record and subtract a second. This allows a major breakthrough in technology but not too big of one. My current best lap is an 8.010 and so the software gets set for 7.00. Dan Mortvi non mordant - Dead men don't bite

I am using Slot Race Manager. This is the hardware setup that I am running... A picture is worth 1000 words. This can be doen even cheaper. This is an opical interrupter and here is another one. These are 2/$1 and cheaper. I have not used them for lap counting, but if they have a response time of less than 1 sec, then they should be fine. pm me if you have any questions. I found a very good article on how to do it in " carrera4fun.de" it is German but easy to figure out. You use a 7400 IC chip and a few resistors. Will work with two or four lane tracks. I am using Artin track, and change my layout quite often, so I like the flexability of this set up. It has pictures of the wiring that make it easy. Art
