My main question is how much importance do you personnally place on the authenticity of the layout when racing a certain car on a track ? Would you ever run a modern NASCAR on a Targe Floria layout?

How important is authenticity when racing on a layout? |

I'm kicking around a semi permenant layout that can be at home racing both vintage and current cars. I like all types of cars and don't want to alienate any particular group from looking at home on the layout. I'm trying to avoid the sanitary generic look and would eventually like to have a fully landscaped track. I was thinking of something like "Riverside" to cover most bases.

For me it don't matter, the cars, the track, the decals, or if you have a driver, some
will require that everything be authentic, for me its all about the fun.![]() Pete |

As long as you are driving the cars it's all good.

IMO the car is most important, the track just adds to the ambience.

It's all about about having fun. Make as real as you like. For me my gauge is,does it look cool to my 7 year old son? If he likes it, it works for me! Some of my senery looks pretty good some of it (honestly) does not. I had fun doing it and I have fun racing with my son so that's all that matters. JIm

I would never find a track unpleasant (assuming Harry didn't include day old baked beans in the menu and El Secundo was there), but I truly appreciate the effort, artfulness, and beauty of a scenic track. If it isn't scenic, I don't even think of it, but if it is scenic, I love it.
Lagnua Seca, Mosport, and Elkhart Lake are gorgeous, you might consider them if you are still planning. Most important, as Heller will tell you, is to go easy on the tall scenery that isn't crash proof. He lost a precious cantenary overhead wiring system once from someone reaching for a crashed car. |

I cannot remember when I raced on a true scale track. I do like scenery of course, but I try to keep it like this:
"Raceable Scenery" I do appreciate folks that attempt a true scale track. The scenery and attention to detail is impressive. But, I will race anywhere...give me a living room floor and a slot car track and the fights on

Rule #1 of Scenery: If the wife says, "Wow" then you get to keep your track.
Rule#2 of Scenery: there is no second rule. Dan "A good conscience and a poor memory go hand in hand." |

Authentic or not, do note that what looks good on paper...or a track planner...does not necessarily convey to a smooth running layout.
