To Future or Not to Future that is the question |

Fresh paint, new decals. Do I cover the whole car or just the decals. How do you apply it?
Anyone can restore a classic car, but it takes a real Hotrodder to cut one up and make it cool!

Since apparently nobody's answered this yet...
You can cover the entire body with Future as it will act as a really nice, strong, shiny clearcoat. Either dip the body in a thing of Future or brush it on since it is self-leveling. Have a paper towel handy as there may be a little build-up along the bottom of the body (when drying) when the Future kinda rolls down, especially if the body was dipped. ![]() |

I'm a pourer. I just pour the future over the entire body, once it is washed and dried.
I use a tooth pick to wick away the excess that collects. I let it dry over night and another coat in the morning. Depending on the car. I will put up to four coats on a car I think the kids will love to run into the wall on every turn. As soon as I find more Future I'll clear the shelf. It's getting harder and harder to find in this area. GO WITH THE FUTURE. It even makes the windows clearer. Frank Crab Alley Speedway

Future is great stuff, I use it whenever I paint a car, but don't count on it to protect the decals, it will rub off fairly quickly. With decals that have been made with an Alps printer I coat them with Future a couple of times before they are put on the car. I clearcoat the car with an automotive finish and finally put Future over that. Decals that have been printed with an ink-jet can be damaged by Future unless you spray it on. It is better to coat ink-jet decals with Krylon Crystal Clear or something similar before they go on the car. I guess that people no longer to use floor finishes like Future very much. There used to be many different brands, but now Future is about the only one left and as has been said it is getting harder to find.

Frank,
They changed the name of Future. I think it's something like Premium floor finish now and it has a phrase of "With Future floor shine" or something like that, right below the new name. The bottle is the same and the inside instruction label is identical. I called S.C. Johnson Co. and talked to customer service. They informed me that the product is exactly the same; only the name has been changed (last April, I think). If you're still seeing "Future" still on the shelves somewhere, it is old stock and once it dissapears, you will never see it again called Future, and have to buy the new label. Call Customer Service to verify the new name. You will also get some useless coupons in the mail to thank you for calling, if you want them. 800-558-5252 Greg |

I'll have to call them tomorrow and post the new name.
Thanks, Frank Crab Alley Speedway

Frank,
I checked at the store today. What used to be called Future is now called: Pledge Premium. The word Pledge is in large letters. The phrase With Future Shine, is in large letters right below it. And below that is the word "Premium", but in much smaller letters. Like I say though, they used the same bottle, and you still read the exact same instructions through the liquid on the back side of the label. In Oregon it runs about $6.00 to $6.50 each. Greg Greg

Are you sure about that? Just last week I picked up a bottle from a Meijer store and it was still labeled "Future" with the words "Premium Floor Finish" below it. In the bottom right corner of the label was a "SC Johnson" logo.

Slot Reaper,
Always question and never stop seeking... good words to live by... almost as good as Sure, Why not? And Congratulations, you've just won the lottery... much better than Hello, let me tell you about AMWAY... or somebody else's religion... But in this case, Yup, I think this information is correct... Yet you know, there's only way to really be sure... call the customer service number on the back of the lable of the bottle you have, and ask them. (It's a free call) I picked up the last bottle at a Kroeger's subsidiary grocery store, and the rest of the line on the shelf had the new label. I was confused as to whether or not it was the same stuff, so I called the help line on the bottle. The information, as relayed above, about changing the label, is what the S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. company told me. Greg

You can put decals on a car that already has Future on it and cover everything with more Future. Unless the car will be a shelf queen the decals will be easily
damaged when they are just covered with Future in my experience. I have done some lab work with Future, it is only 25% polymer, the rest just evaporates. To
build up a thick coating would take four to six coats.
