I have one with the 16D motor.
I am about to change it to somthing less powerful. I just can't keep it on the track. The back end wants to pass the car all the time. Is it the power or the tires. Which motor do you use? I'm running on wood and about 13 Volts DC. Frank Crab Alley Speedway

Re: Sprints Plus | ||

Frank,
I haven't gotten to do much testing as yet with only a few laps on a wood road course. At the time the car had a 16D in it and was quite squirrely. It wanted to tip over in the corners too so I suspect it was getting too much grip. The bushing the drive shaft runs in on the 16D was spinning (sounded like a bucket of gravel running around the track) so I've swapped it out in favor of a Falcon 5. I'm running Tuna's on the rear but with all that power and light weight it might be better to go with a harder tire. I'll get some test time on one of the clubs ovals Sunday and report back. One thing is for sure. These things are freakin' rockets! Gordon

Frank,
Tested the new set up today and am getting no traction at all even with glue. I'm running a 9/29 pinion/crown. Before I tinker with the gear ratio I'm going to add some lead towards the rear of the car to try and get it to hook up. I might try some taller rear tires. Gordon

Until Christmas week I am totaly under the gun. I don't have time to even do what I am doing.
I plan on swapping out the motor to see if that will make it a little easier to handel. Frank Crab Alley Speedway

Gordon,
Any luck with the weight? I'm going to start testing next week, sometime. Adele, Which motor do you supply for the home track? The 16D is just a little much for my track. I love the car. I just have to learn to paint and tune the things. I my have to get another soon. Frank Crab Alley Speedway

Frank, I have run the Sprints Plus with the allelectronics.com $1 motor and the SCW green endbell motor and it was much better behaved on my Artin track. They're a fun chassis to mess with, I have one that I stretched using brass rod and it handled very well.

Re: Sprints Plus | ||

Frank,
Yes, things have improved considerably with the addition of some lead. You might not be able to do this with a 16D in place but with the smaller Falcon I added lead strips outboard of the hole in the bottom of the chassis next to the motor. 2 on the left and one on the right. It's pretty much in the middle of the chassis, lenghtwise. It's hooking up much better now but definately still needs to be driven. Jumping on the power mid turn results in some excitment.... Gordon

Re: Sprints Plus | ||

If you are breaking the tires loose IMO it sounds like to much torque. Your gearing is 9/29 = aprox. a 3.2 gear ratio. Generally I would run about 8/35 = 4.3 gear ratio on the 70/lap old Pit Road oval. If I wanted it to run smoother I increased the crown gear. Now bear in mind we ran 1 Dia. silicone coated sponge tires. If you have enough room for clearance put the lead on the bottom of the chassis.
Are the rear axle bushings/bearings snug in the chassis? Those little buggers spinning around in the hole can produce some erratic handling problems. Brion. Slingin' mud the electric way!
