Hello Folks,
I'm a newbie around here. My name is Mike. I live in a small town in NW California. I am returning to the hobby after a 40 some odd year hiatus. I've written a few posts on the Wood and Artin boards.

My brother and I got our first slot car set for Christmas in 1962. I think that it was a 1/32 Marx set. I remember it had beautifully detailed cars even by current standards with wire wheels, front steering, working headlights and wide, skinny power rails similar to HO. Later, my Dad, brother and I graduated to 1/24 racing when a commercial track opened in our town. We eventually built a 3 lane wood track on our back porch and our house became the neighborhood kids hang out. Cars were mostly scale then until Cox came out with that La Cucca Whatyamacallit and the thingy time began. That's where I faded out of slotting.

I tried HO about 10 or 12 years ago but it didn't do anything for me so I the set wound up stored in the attic. A couple of months ago I bought a basic 1/32 Carrera F1 set figuring that I would try the hobby out again. It was great but that little figure eight set just didn't cut it for me. After checking prices on plastic track and accesseries, I quickly deducted that a wood track to be the most economical choice for expansion. I built a 2 lane, 40 somethng ft. wood track in my garage and am back to the hobby.

I realize that this post covers so many topics that it really belongs in several of the topic forums on the site so I'll quit while I'm ahead. Thanks Harry for this excellent site. It has a folksy quality that belies "Home Racing."
