In my free time I have been tinkering in my basement these last few weeks trying to get the cars that are in all manner of disassembly back into working order. As I began to do this, I realized that the main problem is that for the most part, they are missing tires. Since we run on a routed track, and tire management being the single most important improvement, it has become common practice to rotate the silicones from one car to another, as it is unfeasible to purchase enough to have all my cars and fellow club racers cars shod with silicones. So, being the type of guy that beleives he can do anything(totally false by the way), I decided to do some research into casting . After some weeks of using diff compounds, I came up with a polyurethane/silicone blend that seems to work quite well. I don't know how these tires will last over the long haul, but they are very flexible, don't tear easily and have super grip. I opted to use this blend as I found silicone to be very grippy, with a thicker visccosity, while urethane was thinner and much easier to pour into the small molds. The combined result is a very soft compound, about shore A 25 hardness, with a high degree of reproduction of the original. I am making enough to use this sunday during our club races to see how they really work in competition.

My goal is to make tires for our cars that are hard to find, or aren't made yet, and just to have some replacement tires for the hundreds of cars that just sit on shelves as they can't make a lap with those hard, dried out rubber original tires.
