Heaps of excellent stuff out there nowadays, but yes, Carrera as the manufacturer of the year, I couldnt agree more. I buy more and more of this brand each year, simply because the company offers the models I like, they are finished well, run well, and cost very, very little. The Slot.it GT40? Again yes, it was a standout release, beautifully detailed, great chassis under it, still very reasonably priced considering the quailty on offer. I ended up with the first release and the Gulf, the Gulf is awesome, unfortunately I'm on a bit of a slot car budget nowadays, so these two will have to suffice for me... I never thought 10 or so years ago when I joined the hobby that things could ever be this good, we are spoilt for choice, the quality from all manufacturers is amazing, there is something out there for everyone, whether entry level or advanced. So, I figure in 2014 I'll be caught up to 2011. Joe, glad I was able to help...it's a sweet looking car...just plain different and I like different. I counted up all of the new cars coming through the door and found that I bought a dozen Carrera cars in this past year. About 2/3 were new releases followed by 1/3 of older releases. I bought five SCX Nascars for use as IROC cars for my guests, two Revogram McLaren M8s, two MRRC's, one Slot.it and one NSR. Carrera has garnered a lot of my purchases this year. I plan to buy far fewer cars next year but I know that Carrera will be high on my radar screen if I do. You didn't mention one thing though Harry. I nominate HRW as the top Slot Car Website of the year! Harry consistently creates an atmosphere where even offbeat thinkers like myself can feel comfortable enough to discuss our pursuit of this really fun hobby. I visit the other American site too, mostly for the west coast connections found there, but HRW is my slot car living room. Mike

Posts: 44 (12/31/11 06:31 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, I'm a devoted Carrera digital user (and analog racer), and it's been great to see other people enjoying Carrera product the last year or two. I really, really, really have to agree with the slot.it GT40. I waited a long time to buy one, as my slot dollars were focused elsewhere (Carrera digital CanAms!). When I finally did, I couldn't believe how fine it was right out of the box. At the last IHSR event, after the races were done, four of us were running these just for fun. None had any tuning done beyond a possible pair of tires and magnet removal. Mine had the factory tires. We were all running lap times similar to the lap times we'd run in our regularly scheduled races. Just an amnazing car to run and to look at, and an historical icon to boot! We agreed that there was so much good stuff out there this year, that the list of winners could have been completely different, and we'd still be saying "yeah, great list!" In the 1/24th category, I might give the edge to the Carrera Cheetah over the Breadvan, only because the Breadvan's wire wheels are so-so. The body is brilliant, though. Good choice for Slot Car of the Year. The Slot.It GT40 wasn't my personal favorite car this year, but it was clearly a 'big impact' car -- one of the most highly anticipated cars of the year, and Slot.It really delivered. Very deserving. Slot car runner-up? It's hard not to vote for the Start cars from Scalextric. Nobody else made such good running cars for such an affordable price, and that really brings the value back to the hobby, and makes it easy for dads everywhere to get their kids involved. That's just good for the hobby on the whole. And when you want to go fast, Slot Car Corner rocks with their CB Design wheels. When you want to go slower in style, M/T Resins makes some great stuff. The aftermarket stuff has never been so good. It's been a great year, and it will only get better in 2012! I wanna hang a map of the world in my house. Then I'm gonna put pins into all the locations that I've travelled to. But first, I'm gonna have to travel to the top two corners of the map so that it will not fall off the wall. Mitch Hedberg

Posts: 1750 (01/01/12 12:18 PM) Home Racing Guru! Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	After finishing my most recent repaint, I am going to have to change my SCOTY choice to the Slot.It Toyota 88c. I overlooked the car b/c they didn't' release the Minolta and the Taka Q liveries I was most looking forward to. Having said that, it was still a car that somehow had been passed over in 1/32 for years. When Slot.It announced it as a 'coming soon' car some time ago it took me back to the HO 88c's I loved so much in my younger days. For me it was probably the most anticipated car release of last year, and although it took me awhile to get my hands on one I can see having a fleet of them in both fantasy and real world liveries. Yes, isn't that the bold truth. So much to choose from, it's staggering. James...I had that car out yesterday. Did quite a few laps just sitting the chair and enjoying watching it. I am still not sure why I had to have it either. It is about the opposite of old circle track bombers you can get. I have no history with it either. Can't knock the choice of Carrera being the manufacturer of the year, but since NSR barely got the new Audi R18 in just before the end, I would put them up near the top as well. The Porsche and Vettes are nice cars (though pricey and having too fast a motor IMHO)... There's also the neat ideas for 2011, and my vote would be Slot.It doing away with the eyelets on the guide wires and using setscrews instead. What a no brainer!! I'm sure some here have been doing it for years, but for a manufacturer to send cars out with this concept is brilliant (but what else would we expect from Slot.It?). Can't wait to see first hand their newest concept for guides on the new Lola.

The Toyota is quite a ways away from the Bombers for you and for me I've been looking VERY closely at the Monogram Stockers and the some of the Carrera Superbirds which are quite a departure from my usual 'must have' cars. It made me think that is what is so great about this hobby, so much variety and exposure to all types of motor sports from all eras. Again, I have to go back to the Auto World drag series. I drool over them every time I'm at CincySlots or the local Hobby Town and I wouldn't have thunk (is that a word?) I would get that excited over drag racers. What a great great hobby we have!!! And you're dead on about the list - we could probably have a dozen different 'winners' that would all make perfect sense. The impact that the winners had in our hobby was outstanding, as was a couple other items I can think of. I'm happy to say that I actually have had hands on experience with everything on your list save for three; 1/24 Breadvan (recently got to run the Cheetah though), Slot.it GT40, and M/T Resin products. Santa was good to me and brought me two Carrera Capris's and an Opel, a Tire Razor, and he brought my girls a set of the Scaley Start cars. All of these items are top notch. I literally took the Carrera's from their cases and put them on the track. What a blast! We have yet to try out the Scaley cars but hope to do that this weekend. I have to give two personal nods to a couple folks. Paul Gage for his excellent tires. I have ran these tires on SCX, Pioneer, Monogram and Carrera. To put it simply...they rock! I've have tires of each compound and they all perform great! And a nod to Jon for his Tire Razor. While it's not a necessity for the hobby, it sure does make truing wheels and tires a breeze. And based on the cost of other similar units, his price is outstanding! So thanks Paul and Jon for your contribution to our little hobby. Lastly, thank you Harry for making HRW available to us.
