It will probably be a slow build. I gota save time for laps. Here's the chassis in its beginning stages too. Lib or anyone who has the answers or suggestions, a couple questions: Am I putting it together right so far? And if it is tight so far, how do I connect the wires to the guide? It looks like if I solder they will get pulled off when flag swivels.

The flaf still turns too far with the guide plate flipped over. I may be able to steel a couple of those thin brass looking pieces from an Artin chassis that run from the braids to the motor contacts. Wrap them around the guide plate and end up with something similar to what SCX Compact does.

Posts: 1550 (12/01/09 10:14 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Mic, I'm holdin' in my hand my T/A R/D chassis from last years race and I agree with Joe, turn the guide holder around and it will give you a tad more space for swivel!! But, you have to solder the wires to the top side of braids and you still only get minimal swivel no matter what you do!! Wish it wasn't so late or I'd post a pic!! Looks as though you took the sides off on the back half!! I don't have those washers on mine either!!

This is what i love about this scale, the challenge of the build and experimenting to get it right. I'm not in it for things to be perfect. If everthing was settled and things were always done a certain way, I would have been in it for like two years max and moved on to something else. I think that's why I can't keep myself interested in HO. Its all been done, and if it hasn't itst too small for me to want to do it.

The first series was resin and quite flexible. The actual are made of nylon (?), are stiffer and allow more guide rotation if i remember right. I recently ordered a chassis kit and saw it in the bag, but did not mount it by now.

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hey Mike - that's gonna be a sharp looking buggy when you're done! I've been after one of the Cougar kits for quite some time but they always seem to go for a premium. I normally solder the lead wires to the side of the braids then form the wires around the front of the guide before bending them up to make the radius over the front axle and on to the motor. This normally allows the guide to swivel freely and the twist action on the wires is spread through the radius - not at the solder joint. The flat washers were intended to be used as wheel spacers. I have since replaced the stainless washers with nylon. Peter is correct about the guide flag plate - it has also been replaced with waterjet cut nylon and is much sturdier.
