Not good, not bad. Get a Carfax.

Mark,
Yes, I have purchased one on eBay, and sold another. There are two rules for I follow: 1) Get someone to see the car if it isn't local. I belong to a massive Chevelle Forum and we look at cars all of the time for folks in other states. Having someone that is a car-person or knows specifics on the model helps immensely. You hear daily stories of the horrible cars some folks have gotten. I personally have had zero issues with either purchase. 2) Tell the seller that you'll close the deal after you look it over and it goes to a local mechanic for a checkup. If they refuse to allow you to do that, keep looking. I'd rather suffer the wrath of bad feedback and problems on eBay than be stuck with an expensive paperweight! If selling, realize you're going to get soaked on the fees for something that costs a few grand. I personally now recommend Craigslist. I used it to purchase my last vehicle as well as sell a travel trailer and a million other things. The only issue is that these being local, you can meet some nutters or folks that want to scam you. DO NOT have them over to your house as they may be casing the joint. Meet at a local McDonald's or Walmart with the vehicle. Most legit private sellers will also let you take it to a mechanic for a checkup. Just do your homework and be careful. |

Good advice, David. My wife buys and sells on Craigslist. Exactly how she handles it.

I bought an antique BMW cycle on Ebay, it was supposed to be a basket case, but it arrived in such good shape, I drove it home from the trucking place. I
bought a Buick Roadmaster on Ebay, got it for about $2500 less than Blue Book because the the guy selling it misspelled the auction title, and no one ever saw
it except my wife (the Ebay queen), so we got it at the starting bid. Both are massive bargains on quality goods. Just remember, for everyone like me
there's someone who got screwed blue. I quit while I was way ahead.
There ain't no learnin' in the second kick of a mule...

Thanks - great advice as always.
I just ran a carfax on the one I'm looking at and will be meeting the seller mid week at his house. David - I guess I'll have to go check out the seller fee structure again because I didn't think it was too bad - I probably missed something in the fine print somewhere. Thanks again guys Mark |

I sold a few vehicles a couple years back on there. Most buyers are easy to deal with but I had one guy show up and just nit picked the car to death on a car
that he would have stole because he got it at the starting bid which was about $2000 under book value. He didn't take it but he did leave good feedback for
it. I ended up selling locally after that, but a couple years ago I think it was like $50 to list a vehicle and $50 final fee when it sold. You'll have
good and bad experiences just like every other item bought and sold off the bay.

A friend of mine bought a car that didn't exist. after a year he got his money back and the seller went to jail. More recently I bought a trailer and a
rolling chassis race car and everything was fine. If your buying from a private seller check the car out first. Carfax won't tell you everything infact
carfax only reports about 25% of what actually follows the car.
