Posts: 5 (06/16/09 02:38 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hi, I'm trying to rebuild my Artin electric track from my childhood days. I went through what I have and what I need and I realised I need the power pack. Now I read that I can upgrade the power supply, etc, etc. The problem I have is that the part this fits into the track, is where the controllers also slot in. And this is the part I need. I looked on ebay and found a "terminal kit" and looked like what I needed. But the seller said it would not work on my track as we user 220V 3 pin power setup as opposed to the US/Canada 2 pin, 110V setup. Can't I just use a converter or is there something else that would be incompatible? Is there another option I can try instead of trying to get hold of this part? Or do you also need the terminal track? Also, is the track pictured in the ebay auction the same type that you have with the locking tabs at each end? I don't have any more as I have sold all my Artin track, but I'm sure someone on here will have what you need in 120V. No sense paying the extra money for shipping from Africa, plus the cost of the converter. There are alot of members on here that have stashes of Artin stuff, especially 90 degree R1 curves. Just give it a day or two.

I just need to connector and power adaptor. Also, I am from South Africa, and the only place I can find the connector(online at least) is on ebay from a seller in Canada. However, we use 220V here. However, the terminal connector looks the same, not sure sure if it is.

Insert your wires under the track as you would to install a power tap. You can solder them in or hold them in place with hot glue. Power supply diagrams and power tap details are available at Phillipe's 43rd HQ. Follow the link under the blue car at the top of the foum page.

I'm extremely ignorant and I've looked at all the links but the pieces to the puzzle are just not fitting together nicely. Basically I don't know exactly which wires from the transformer go where. Obviously there are 2 wires coming from the transformer and I'm not sure where they would go. I don't wanna blow up my house by putting the live wire in the wrong place, etc. LOL. Another thing I can't understand is that it looks like the taps are short-circuiting the controllers. It's obviously just my understanding or lack of it. But if the power goes straight to the track, how do the controllers regulate the voltage to the cars? If you can maybe just help me with a bit with understanding this, I would appreciate it. Thanks for helping out!

You take one wire from the power pack, connect it to one wire of the controller. Take the other wire from the controller, and solder it (or just strip back a bunch of wire and slip the bare wire into the bottom of one side of the track rail where there is an opening. Depending on the size of the wire, you may have to double it up. It should be at least 16 guage wire, but 14 may be better. What ever you have lying around). Now, you will have one wire left from the power pack. Take an extra piece of wire and attach it to the other rail of the track piece, and connect it to the remaining wire of the power pack. It is basically wiring all the items in sequence. "Out" from the power pack to "in" of the controller, "out" from the controller to "in" of the track rail, "out" from the other track rail to "in" of the power pak. This will work if you are going to use one power pack to control each lane, which is good if you can do it as there will be no power surge from running two lanes with one power pack if one car derails. If you must run two lanes with one power pack, connect one lead from the power pack to "one each" wire of both controllers. Take one wire from controller one, and attach it to one rail of lane one. Take the other wire from controller two, and attach it to one rail of lane two. Take two pieces of scrap wire. Attach one to the remaining rail of lane one. Take the other, and attach it to the remaining rail of lane two. Take both of the scrap wires, and attach both to the remaining wire of the power pack. Any power pack that converts your 220V AC power to 5-7.5V DC will work. Higher DC volts will work, but if your cars have lights, the bulbs will burn out at higher voltages. Secondly, I am as a lot of the folks on here a electrician, I may have just what you are looking for. Including a 220 volt wall wart (transformer). But what would help is if you could post a picture of one of your wall plugs so I could see if I have the right configuration. If you could do this I will check my boxes of strange and unassual electrical stuff at my shop this weekend, more than likely I will have it.

I tested my track out with an old AC/DC adapter I had lying around and got it working. I had some issues where the one control had a monopoly over both tracks but figured it out and it was because the one controller only needed one wire from the power supply. The design of the terminal track made it easy(yet confusing at first) as all the connections were already made on the track.All I really had to do was to connect the power directly to the controllers. Now to set it up permanently and possibly upgrade some bits and pieces. Once again thanks for your advice. P.S I will be back for more help in the future :-)
