1:43 SCX - Staying on the track? |
Lead | |
|
I am new to this hobbie so plse excuse my ignorance. If anyone can help would be grateful. I recently bought a 1:43 scale SCX set ..the Formula 1 ..and a
couple extra "tuner" cars. One of the F1 cars (the McClaren) ran fine for a couple days ...then suddenly it just no longer stays on the track ..comes
off just about every circuit. What's up? Engine runs fine, cannot distinguish any difference in the axles or positioning of wheels or the guide that fits
in the slot in the track. Any suggestions welcome. Same thing has now happened with one of the tuner cars after only a couple hours use. Weird.
Thanks |

Sounds like the magnets fell out. Check under the car and see if there is a slot in the bottom that looks like something should be there (near the rear axle).
Anyone else like modifying stuff? Try modding Nerf guns at nerfhaven!

No, magents are still there. What's happening is that the guide slots are coming out of the channel at every turn, regardless of speed. Does anyone have
any experience with adding weight to front of the car? Or should I consider changing the guide slots?

did you open the car to inspect if there is dust or something inside the car that´s disturbing?
to open them you will have to remove the guide by pulling it out. just an idea - are the braids flat against the guide or are they bent? try to flatten the braids to the guide... |

I did all that ...no dust, braids are fine. The guide seems to always be jumping out ......

Is it coming out at the same place every time ? I had this happen to me I had to open up the slot width as for some reason I guess the temperature change the
slot tightened up on me .

everything is moveable easily? guide, fronts and rear tires?
did you try pushing the car slowly over the spots where it jumps out of the slot by hand? do you feel any disturbance while doing this? |

Welcome to the forum JJ!!!
Redundant...check Mr. P's site at top of page. There is a topic on his site for settin' up these cars to run smoothly!! Most out of the box SCX's cars front tires don't touch track so this is probably one of the problems!! The other suggestions here are also probably factors!! Good Luck!! |

Good job, Tom. Does my heart good to see a fledgling turn into an avid, knowledgeable poster. I'm so proud of you!!!! WELCOME johnjohn. It gets easier the
more you get into it, and the more you watch this site for great info and help. Just as an add, have you checked the joints where the track comes together? As
you are going into the turn, is the turn higher than the straight? Press down on the front of the car, and see how it goes around the corner. Others will chime
in, so hang in there.

There's a video on http://www.SCXWorldwide.com done by the Master SCX Tuner, Bryon on the Compact F1 cars. It is
very helpful, also.
