RMS Ferrari 612 & McLaren M12 DONE! 08/03/09 - see last post! |
Lead | |

I just acquired an Aurora Ferrari 612 Can-AM in 1/32. I loved this car in the AFX version. I want to build one for myself, but if there is interest, I'd
pop this 2 ways; 1 as the stock Aurora offering, and the other as a modified and detailed one that mounts either a Slot-It Alfa, Fly, or Sebring chassis.

I usually keep everything stock or stock improved, but that one looks kinda like a base for a seriously detailed version. But find out if its rare or something
first. Is it a K&B, or a straight Aurora? I believe there were both.
If you do detail it, the exhaust and the intakes present a real shot at something spectacular. It looks like there's enough room around the intakes in the body opening to show off some engine, too. Maybe some of those looong looms for all those plug wires, eh? You can do something with that tranny and exhaust assembly, too. It won't take much research to find the correct wheels and tire profile, maybe some sheet styrene fins, splitters and such... what do ya think?

That would be awesome to have as a running mate for the Slot it Alfa and 312. I would definitely be interested.

Rob, great ideas, and that's where I think I'll go with it. But, judging from what I paid...it's gotta be somewhat rare. I figure a repop would
sell at least enough to pay off the rubber and original purchase to the collectors. Then a detailed one like you mentioned for the rest of us.
Alaska, that is exactly what I'm thinking!!! I just found out today that Proto-slot makes one, but it looks like a slightly later model and runs about $120-ish.... $30 for a kit and $30 for running gear sounds pretty good to me! |

I am interested David. That would be great. I would prefer a modified & detailed one on a slotit alfa chassis. That is a great idea. Count me in if you end
up doing these.

If I remember correctly the Aurora cars were 1/32nd and the K&B cars were 1/24th.

Yes I vote for the modified version on the Sebring Chassis. Years ago when I joined the board I nagged you to make GT Endurance cars and CanAms, Funny how
things all work out in the end.......Now if I could only find a McLaren M8A to go with it......

Either way you care to do it, I'm interested. When you cast it, could you put in mounting posts for both the Sebring Chassis and the Slot.It Ferrari 312
chassis, and the builder can remove the posts they don't need?

Chet - that's because you are a NAG
Joe - if re-done besides the original Aurora version, I'd want to put in mounting points for something like that. I don't have the 312, so I'd probably need to borrow one from someone to test with. The Sebring and Slot-it Alfa or a Fly 908 were others I was thinking of. I'll have to get out the calipers and do some measuring to see what fits. Also, this won't be done in the next month...I've got a BUNCH of other projects and the kid's spring break thrown in there on top of some house work. Hmm...I see many a late night in my future... |

I say Sebring chassis as well but that's only because I have a brass BWA chassis still waiting for the right body and its a direct fit for the new Mono/Rev
Ferrari's using that Sebring chassis. I think modified and highly detailed or just the way it is doesn't matter to me. If its not detailed enough there
are ways to add any details I might want to see.

I would be interested in a reasonably detailed one as well. I would prefer it on a Slot.it chassis.

Mark,
That's a funny looking Ferrari...not a prancing horse to be seen. It must be a re-livery... If I can get through the millions of projects I'm working on, I'll be happy to make one. |

Dave,
I don't know if you are interested but I do have an Aurora McLaren M12 here, the running mate to your Ferrari. If you might be interested in casting it also I will refrain from painting it. Chaparral purchased and ran a M12 in 1969 because Surtees did not like the 2H, I was going to do the Chaparral livery with this body. I'd be in for 2 for the Slot.It or the Sebring chassis.
