I GOT A NEW TOY! Mwahahahaaa... and combined Carrera and SCX! |
Lead | |
|
I got a 14-foot SCX Compact GT Touring Car Championship and 2 more DTMs (these ones aren't detailed and have no lights unfortunately) and realized that I
need to make adapter tracks for my GO!!! set and SCX set. I didn't want to tackle my Artin track (lane spacing). Using a soldering gun, wire cutters,
solder and ONE paperclip, I MacGyver'd it and it totally works! I'll show pics tomorrow... it's like 10:35. PLUS: I got $150 towards more track
extensions or even a whole nother track.

Way to go Dan. LTJG Vince didd the same but haven't seen how he did it either. I am curious also about "not detailed" DTM cars. I have all 4 and
they are detailed. DTM's don't have lights, just Tuners.

Way to go DC. I've been planing the same thing, but I was going to use brass welding rod to make continuity. I've given away my Artin track and boxed
up all the remaining R1's to make room. I have two SCX track sets and three Carrera sets, I just need more R2's before I start.

By "not detailed DTMs" I mean the chassis doesn't have the ground effects cut into it. The bodies do, but it just stops at the chassis.

I about choked when you said not detailed - I was envisioning a solid colored car with no markings (sigh)

As far as 1/43 details are concerned...
Carerra is at the top of the heap, clear windows and interiors. Then SCX as they have painted windows and tampo. Then bringing up the rear is Artin with its stickers for windows and details. Performance wise... SCX Carerra Artin

DrDiff - what - carrera go! car has clear windows??? you can use a Go!LeMans car for offroad racing is top detail?

I think DrD has gotten used to seeing the clear windowed cars rolling out of HPR

I think performance-wise, you are right. My Carrera Speed Racer set has clear windows, but anyway, my Artin "Classic Stockers" don't have nearly
the handling of the Carrera or SCX, probably because of the magnet. I do have a question, though: why does my (Xmod-motor) Artin Stocker keep deslotting (with
no rear end slip)? I put some weight in the front (size 7 lead fishing weight) and that helped a little, but I still can't get it to come close to my
Carrera or SCX cars... probably magnet still...

DC, fantastic track adaptor!! And a nice stable of DTM's!! Wish I had one of those Orange and Green ones!!
Correct me if I'm wrong guys but, if your using stock Artin motors, they are good for around 5V-8V. Carrera and SCX motors are good between 12V-15V. More than 8V and a decent mag on the stock Artin, they just get too wild and are very hard to control and that causes alot of deslottin'!! JMHO!! |

Yeah, kind of. It has a really torquey sucker of a motor (again, Xmod) but it doesn't slide before it deslots, it just pops out. I'll try sealing the
front tires. Since these controllers have the boost button (which I hate because it gives any brand of car WAY too much current unless you're on a long
straight) the Artin car w/high current-draw Xmod motor barely has enough initial startup current to get going, and then slowly accelerates (2 laps around my
10-ft oval) to its comfortable speed. Right after that, it hits the turn and weakly deslots.

I dont see whats so good about a Carrera and SCX I have both types of car and i would not trade a artin with a goldmine motor for a carrera or
scx car im running at 16 volts and they have no speed

The other brands tend to handle better, and you could still out a goldmine motor in SCX or Carrera and they both have a lot of speed at 16v without a G9330.
Then again, my post count is only 51...

RCK, you run an oval. On a road course you couldn't touch a Carrera with out a LOT of magnet. I know, I have them too. What is good about Carrera and SCX
is the detailing. Artin sucks for details with a few exceptions (the Saleen is one).
Different strokes for differnt folks.

DC, carrera and scx tend to handle better mainly because of 2 reasons: less weight (mostly because of smaller motor) and much more magnet.
for deslotting: adjust the braids and if it is possible, try to pull out the guide pin a little so it can reach deeper into the slot. which controllers are you using for artin motors? with go or scx controller you will not have much controll over the artin motors. Broman, an artin car with the tires trued down to 14mm front (sealed with CA glue) and 16mm rear diameter and the body lowered, @ 12V it can be very fast. |

it`s not any certain brand,it`s what type of track and how you have them set up,Carrera is no better than Artin or SCX they`re all just toys gang, but as for
getting more bang for your bucks...Artin still has that end covered with SCX running a close 2nd I ran some Carrera cars on the RIVERSIDE track a few years
back and I just flat couldn`t get them dialed in to suit me,so I pretty much just stuck with what worked at the track, now as for details sure CARRERA and SCX
have them, but in the long run you`re paying more for those details too,so to me it just boils down to how much ya wanna spend, and ,what ya want them to look
like, personaly I don`t give a damn because I build more custom stuff although I have been wondering here lately about how to go about building a PORSCHE RAT
ROD????????????? lol
