Great looking track! Looks like it would be interesting to drive. Wish I had that kind of room for a track.

ffries61 wrote: It looks like 9 seconds is about normal... at least until we get some rubber laid down. I'm having trouble with the timing though. About the only way I can get it to count a lap is to make sure I'm going slow across the sensor. It doesn't matter what car I'm running either... Slot. It, Fly, Carrera, etc... I've checked to make sure that the sensors are all the way up in the slot and they are. They are all they way up against the bottom of the braid... in others they can't go any higher. I'm thinking that since they do detect cars when going slower that means the sensors are aimed correctly... it's just a matter of the guide riding high under even very moderate acceleration. I don't have the sensors in a fast part of the track and they aren't accelerating where they are. Anybody got any ideas about what I can do short of elimating the sensor harness and going with a different type of sensor setup? |

Who did the harness come from? It it came from Brent (Mr. Bugs) email him and I'm sure he'll help. When I had issues with my set up he called me to
talk me through some steps and we were on instant messenger other times. He went above and beyond to make sure I got it working and I was grateful.

Yup it's Brents. My next step was going to e-mailing him.
The thing that's kind of worrying me is that the sensors are lower in the slot because of the braid than they would on a copper taped track. I'm afraid that is going to give me fits. |

Larry, an easy way to check if this is indeed the problem is to make a duct tape guide flag "extension" any tape will work, thats what we use on
genes track, just cut your tape twice the length of the guide and much wider than you need and fold tape around front of the guide, and trim to desired shape
and depth on the car.
Trace Also, we have found out some guides are made of a material that IR passes right thru, a quick paint job with a sharpie usually fixes this, the one car I had with this prob was an NSR with white guide flag.

I figured out the problem with the laptimer... it was a simple setting in Lap Timer 2000. There's a setting in there for a delay with older computers that
was defaulted at 10ms so that's where I left it. Once I switched that to 1ms it works perfectly.
I had a couple friends over to run tonight and after putting 2200 - 2500 laps on we have some rubber laid down... at least a good start anyway. The times got faster as we ran. Right now a good lap time is between 8.000 and 8.200 with the fastest time under 8.000. The fastest time right now is 7.647 with a heavily modified Carrera... in fact there isn't much of the Carrera running gear left

The track runs out real nice,I ran about 1250 laps in the outside or red lane. The 350Z is not so heavily modified,Black can Slot It,BWA 32006 with Ninco F1
rubber at the rear geared 3.0 with no extra weight. It ran a fast lap of 7.54.7 My Artin Stocker (Old Blue

One set of taps will do if you are using braid. To get uniform power all around the track connect to all of the left hand braids in one spot and connect to all
of the right hand braids half way around the track from there.

jollytroll wrote:Jollytrolls just bein a bit modest... that 350z is one of the smoothest, quietest cars I've seen run. And did we mention it is fast?? Proof you don't need the most powerful motors to build a fast car. I decided to go with a single power tap and have not been dissapointed. If there is a power drop and can't detect it. As for the laptimer Mr. Bugs has a winner with his Sensor Harness. We ran almost 3000 laps last night without missing any laps (that we noticed anyway). The only car that it would not pick up was my Pro-Track chassis with the white guide. It never even missed a beat on my Scaley IRL with the blue guide. |

It has a been a blast! We just got done putting another 2500 or so laps on it. The outer lane is just a tad over 65 ft and our best time so far is 7.549... but
anything under 8 seconds is a pretty darn good time. Most of the turns get sharper as you get deeper in the turn so they are a little tricky to get used to and
slow ya down. Once you get used to them though you can through them pretty nice.
I tell ya what... I am EXTREMELY happy with the results! All the work was worth it! |

I just had to get my trees out and put them back after the work was done, did a little vacuuming on the grass (make sure it's well glued before!) and voilà! I love my new braided track! You're right about laying the double-sided tape. It's tedious but the braiding part goes quick after that and it'll be worry-free for years and years. Try it on one track, you'll never lay copper tape again after that. I know I won't. And fellow racers from Québec are saying the same thing. |
