Anybody know this guy? |
Lead | |
|
I'm not sure who this is driving what appears to be an open-wheeler of mid-60s vintage. Is that Phil Hill? Could that be a Coyote? I don't even know
where it came from. Any help from the Archivists? Thanks

Graham Hill winner 1966 Indy. see the stripes on the helmet, his trademark. Car is a Lola

Graham Hill is the only possibility, with that helmet. The white stripes are symbolic of oar blades, as that is the insignia of the London Rowing Club.

If interested - Patto's has a clear body and matching decals if you want to create one.

Thanks guys, I just got the wrong Hill. I did have a clue about the helmet though. Kinda like Jackie Stewart's; the plaid stripe is his family tartan.
Da, where would I get a chassis for something like that? Popsicle? ![]() ............Blueaxe
-Just some trivia on the T-90 & Indy '66- According to the Lola site Graham preceded Jim Clark, and unbelievably, only four cars finished that day.
Check out the asymmetrical suspension:

The helmet is for sure the give away. Phill always wore one which was a half shell, with a leather bottom, even in the '60s when everyone else was wearing
the open faced full "Bell" style helmets. Phil was a champ! Of course, so was Graham. He for sure won the '66 Indy in the RedBall #24 Lola Ford.
Re: The chassis. A Beardog would fit and is an excellent chassis (but they're about $50 smackers per unit) Lately, I've started liking Penelope Pitlane chassis... Precision cut brass or nickle-silver and run from about $10.50 to $13.00 USD. Plus Steve Ward who runs the site is a really nice guy and has been shipping from England for free. Hard to beat that with a stick. You'd have do the offset with axle spacing and custom suspension detail on your part. I might leave it symetrical, so that I could run it on a road course, if it were me though.

More trivia. Offically Graham Hill won Indy in '66 but he was actually a half lap behind Jimmy Clark. Lap counting was done by hand and a mistake was
made. Unoffically all 33 teams had J. Clark ahead of G. Hill.
