Future question |
Lead | |
|
I am going to be trying my first actual repaint of a vintage nascar. I've heard everyone talk about Future. I bought Pledge with Future Shine Floor Finish
is that the right stuff? Also when I dip it in the future and let it dry do I dip it more than once or is once enough?

Yep, the Pledge with Future Shine is the same stuff.
Usually, I won't dip a car body in Future, although I know many people on here do so. Since it's self-leveling, I paint it on in 2-3 coats with a small paint brush. Be sure to have a paper towel or something of the like handy to wipe away the excess stuff that runs to the bottom of the car (to keep it from building up)...especially if you dip it.

Thanks for the help.

Hey Chris,
I've had good luck brushing it on too. As klutzy as I am, I think if I tried dipping it I would also wind up crash testing it while it was still dripping wet! (Had that happen with paint!) So, what are you working on? Patrick |

Yeah Chris, what's it gonna be? I've even cleared some of my factory painted cars that have gotten a little dull.
It works on scratched windows too. Keep us posted. Terry |

I've picked up a few of the Carrera Pro-X Superbirds for pretty cheap so I've decided to repaint them so if I do screw it up it won't hurt so bad.
Heres a pic of the car I'm gonna try first and if it works well I might try some tougher ones as hopefully I'll get better.
So far I've got it stripped and primered just about ready for the first coat of paint.

I have found that if you only coat the decals with Future they will get rubbed off after a while. When I am using decals that were made using an Alps printer I
give them two or three coats of Future before I cut them out and put them on the car. I then clearcoat the whole car with DupliColor clearcoat and top that off
wuth Future. You have to test any new combination of paint, decals and clearcoat before you use it on a car.

Be careful with the white. Sometimes Future's been known to yellow.

Jenny is right, I got a car from the sell or trade forum and the future is a lil off shade. Here is a photo of three that have future on them. The 97 is off
shade while the Vette is still nice and white and the Opel is white primer with future over it. I don't dip my bodies, I put a little in a paper cup and
throw away whats left as to not contaminate the rest of the bottle. Can't say why it turned, but the Vette has been done for about 6 months and looks as
good as the day I cleared it. Maybe someone else on the forum can explain why it might happen?
Keep it in the slot |

I should be receiving the decals the end of the week or first of the next. I'll post it once I get it done if it turns out.

Future contains a small amount of ammonia and I believe that the ammonia is what causes some types of white paint to yellow. Or maybe the paint causes the
Future to yellow.

I see this discussion regards Future (Klear) all the time. I have painted over 300 cars and find the experiences of others somewhat strange. Decals should be
sprayed with clear acrylic to prevent weeping. This should be done on the sheet and if home made after they have been given adequate time to dry. Usually one
coat is enough but sometimes you need two. Cars can be sprayed with acrylic car paint and then when finished they can be hand painted carefully with Future
(Klear) for up to 7 coats. I like to get a single coat on before I apply any decals. I have some cars I did using this method that are now two years old. I
have had no yellowing and no deterioration of decals whatsoever. It's ain't rocket science and is a simple and clean operation. I never spray varnish
of any sort. It it a risky business unless you know what you are doing. I did hand paint one Fly car with Revell varnish some time ago and that car did
actually yellow and flake off. It might have been my lack of experience rather that the applied method. Keep it simple boys.

not trying to hijack the thread, does anyone spray future? what would you thin it with?
I want to add some pearl to it if that's possible and spray over kandy.
common sense is not common

Future is rather thin to start with, it is 25% solids. Since it is water based you can thin it with water. I don't know of anyone adding anything to
Future, you will have to experiment with that.
