I finally finished building my table for my track using the method Ron with lakotacollectibles suggested using the 8 ft. plastic folding tables I purchased at
Lowes with 2 x 4 x 12's and Melamine. Table ended up being about 16 x 12. I plan on using the green outdoor "Astrotruff" like carpet to cover the
table and then lay the track on top of the grass. The reason I used Ron's suggestion for constructing the table is I do not have to use nails or glue to
hold everything togather. The weight of the Melamine ( This stuff is HEAVY!!) laid on top of the 2 x 4 x 12's allows the table to be very steady. I had the
Melamine cut into 2 x 8 sheets so I could place it on the 2 x 4 x 12 frame work like leaves with a dinning room table. The main reason I decided to use
Ron's plan is first simplicity and secondly I am in a situation where I may hav to move out of the house I'm living in within a weeks notice. ( A
friend of mine is letting me stay at this house while I'm going through my divorce. He has the house listed with a Realtor and if it sells I have to be
out.) Now to my carpet question. Considering I may have to break the table down in a hurry, would you staple the carpet to the sides of the table....OR use the
spray glue on the surface of the melamine and lay the carped down. I guess one way is as good as another but if I glue the carpet I figure I can just use a
utility knife to cut the carpet at the edges ogf the individual Melamine "leaves". Then if when I get to a new location I just put the Melamine back
down and the carpet is already there. If I staple I have to remove all the staples, roll up the carpet and then when I rebuild the table I again would have to
lay it out and restaple. What do you guys think??
