OMG!!!! National Anthem at Nationwide race |
Lead | |
|
Did anybody else hear those people sing it for the opening of tonight's Nationwide race? It had to be the Worst I've heard since Jose
Feliciano sang it for the World Series in 68 when I was in another country. Jose', I think was the 1st that changed the traditional tune, I've learned
to live with people changing the tune, A LITTLE. These people didn't have a tune! LOL. I think they might have been into some of the Old No7 or something.
Let me change that, they did have a tune...tunes, they each had a tune of their own. Yup, 10 or 12 different tunes all at once!!!!

I'm glad I didn't hear it. Nothing makes me any madder than someone singing the National Anthem any way other than the way it was written. I would love
to hear the crowd at a Nascar race or any other professional sporting event "boo" the singers for singing it the way they want to sing it. I'm
sure that you wouldn't hear singers in other countries singing their national anthem any way other than the way it is supposed to be performed. So why do
American performers think they can take liberties with OUR National Anthem and why do we, as Americans, put up with it?
I'll get off my soapbox now. Big Mike Never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level then beat you with experience. |

One of these days I hope it comes out that Francis Scott Key wrote it with the kazoo in mind...
Guys, it was written based on an old British drinking song. The way it was intended to be sung was while drunk in a pub.
I didn't hear it, but I'm sure it sucked big-time. But all singers have the right to butcher a tune, and throw their careers in the toilet in the process. All music is open to interpretation. I would think
it's especially true in the 'Land of the Free'.
Less devotion to symbols and more devotion to national principles (as embodied in the US Constitution) would do us a lot of good. In the meantime, we should probably accept the fact that singers in the US of A are free to completely suck. It's an American mindset to take something that's perfectly good the way it is and to change it. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it just blows.

That is so true!
I think it's the American Idol influence. Too much style, very little substance. I love the USA, but when we screw up, it can be really bigtime! |

Music, like all artforms are completely subjective. One man's junk is another man's gold.
There is no copyright on how a song, (any song) is performed, if that were the case, performing somebody's tune other than the way it was written could get you in hot water. (recording another's tune w/out permission is a whole 'nother can o' woims) There is also the Bill of Rights to consider; "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll kill and die defending your right to say it". Freedom of Speech was written with just such situations in mind.
You only let off the gas to keep the wheels from spinning...

This had nothing to do with the way they they chose to sing it...it had to do with the fact that not 1 of them could carry a tune in a suitcase! Harmonize?
LMAO!!!! They downright sucked!!!! That guy that sings that song in the street for the stop smoking commericial could do better........

Am I the only one that can't quite get over Jim Nabors singing at the Indy 500? I keep wanting to hear him say, "Well golly Andy, I guess I could try
and sing that song..." and then belt out "Back Home in Indiana" - but that's just me...
(FYI - for you younguns, Jim played Gomer Pyle on the Andy Griffith Show back in the day when NASCAR still had a STOCK CAR on the track.) |

I have heard the National Anthem butchered melodically many times. It still is an American singing it. I still stand and salute. I still get a little chocked
up. I hope that we can still have the opportunity to witness/participate in this ceremony in times to come.

ritual. Maybe she's trying to make some time with James Garner...
