800 grit wet/dry the kind that is used for paint prep on real cars. Best if used wet. After sanding use damp sponge to remove residue. Hope this helps.

I usually get started truing and shaping with about a 150 grit then follow it up with a finer grit.
If you're working on silicones (like supertires) Steve Sawtelle has a really good tutorial on his Slot Car Corner web site. I was also talking to Kelly (Kelmac) about his "Tru Grip" urethane tires and he indicated that a noticible improvement in traction can be acquired by a final polishing with between 2000 and 2500 grit. I haven't tried this myself yet, but he makes the tires and I have to take him at his word. Great tires, by the way.

I use anything from 80-150 depending on whats laying about at the time.....
After sanding I use good quality electrical tape to clean off the tyres with.
