Greg, the tail fins on the Revell '56 Ford were add-ons to the stock, small fins. They looked like vertical stabilizers on a twin tailed airplane, or one
of those aero devices they tried at Le Mans around 1969.
The kit also included Buick style portholes, another forgotten example of stylistic nonsense from that era. |

Growing up in the 60's 1/32 cars just didn't get my attention. They didn't offer the drag racing kits my brother and I built ( my aunt used to work
for MPC, so we got models by the bunch).
The 1/32 cars were usually all plastic, plastic tires, everything on a single color tree, no chrome and lack of the larger car detail. And they were usually of some kind of little foreign thingy. Were 1/32 popular? After reading this thread I'd have to say it was what you were into and where you lived. My brother and I had both 1/24 and 1/32 slot cars too but again the 1/32 lacked detail compared to the 1/24 cars. I mean, compare a Strombecker or Eldon cars to a Cox 1/24 Cheetah. And the 1/24 scratch built slots were bodies using mostly 1/24-25 model cars. Where and when I grew up 1/32 just wasn't "cool".
