Date Line... Big Bend Speedway, Saturday May 17 2008, the race for
total laps for the day on the 40 foot long flat oval was a hottly
contested battle all day between Billy "Preacher" Grace and
Bruce "Madman" Gordon.. When all 4 divisions were over it was a tie
between the two with 738 laps each!! A ten lap runoff with Bruce
winning the coin toss and picking the powerfull white lane leaving the
preacher on the long way around red lane... for 9 and 3/4 laps it was
neck and neck... with 5 feet to go the pair crash in turn 4, with
preacher ahead by 1/2 inch.. On the restart Bruce was a little
distracted and the preacher got the jump on him and lead him back the 5
feet to the finish line to take the Win for the Most Yotal Laps of The
Day!!! More to come and race result next couple of days!!!

News Flash #2... Billy "Preacher" Grace with his lap total win, might
have came away with the Top Dog Lap Total, but with only one win for
the day, that of the VHORS Super Stock. A "Come From Behind Win" due to
the top two having more offs, helped hold off "Madman" Bruce for the
total laps. In a what was a very close race amongst the top three, lap
leader Matt Patrick with 199(moral victory lol) and Anthony Zampelli
198 both had too many offs, with "Crash" Patrick falling to third, The
Big-Guy Anthony finished second and the Preacher moved from third to
first.. The totals after offs had Preacher on top with 195, Anthony 2nd
with 194 and Patrick with 192(Hey I finished a SS Race LOL). Rounding
out the top 5 was Steve Nelson with a GREAT run of 190 laps for 4th and
Bruce Gordon with 187 for 5th. A very good race with the top 5 having
only an 8 lap difference after all was said and done.... Note: the
fastest thing on the track had to be the "Oldman", but he fell victim
to the dreaded track calls himself and was out on the third lane, but
at least the car he built won! Maybe next time Pops you'll keep the

News Flash #3... Date Line, Big Bend Speedway Saturday 5/17/08... In
the BENDS prelude to the upcoming Livonianappolis 500 in NY, the
Indy car race was a tightly fought battle between top contenders,
hoping to get a little practice in for the 500. The show looked to
be between Johnny "Lightning" Grace, Bruce "Madman" Gordon,
Matthew "Its a Lotus, Bruce" Patrick and Billy "Preacher" Grace...
While the front runners Patrick and Gordon diced it out for all four
lanes, matching lap for lap and off for off... Steve Nelson laid
down a very quiet and unnoticed 42 laps on the long way around red
lane before rotating out, leaving what looked to be the battle for
the lead up to others... The racing was fast and furious between
Patrick, Gordon and the Grace's for all four lanes leaving Patrick
ahead of Gordon by a mere lap and a few sections and both being
ahead of the Preacher by a couple. But what all missed was Steve
Nelson, till he rotated back in laying down a very impressive 43
laps on the tight yellow lane, followed by 42 laps on blue and white
with only one off. Very impressive run for the up and coming driver,
looks like the prsctice on Wednesday nights is starting to pay off.
Passing everything in sight during the race, Nelsons only draw back
was not being able to pass the tech guy, his car was fast and
smooth, but a balanced arm took the win out of his hands and into
the second place victor Patrick... Was a great race and closly
contested with a lot of side by side laps being run and a lot of
trash talk between racers!!! Note: Bruce "I protest that body"
Gordon has joined in the little car look with a old Marx Indy body,
funny it's about the same size and weight as the Lotus... Well all,
off to NY this weekend for the big 500, Good Luck All... Watch for
the upcoming updates on the Fray and JL Sportsman race!!!

New Flash #4.... Date Line Big Bend Speedway Saturday 5/17/08..
Johnny "Lightning" Grace lives up to his nickname and easily blows
the doors off all in the JL Sportsman race. Laying down a nice run
of 207 laps after offs, the Oldman's closest competitors were Rapid
Rudy Urban and the Madman Bruce Gordon, both tied with 203 laps with
Rudy eeking out the tie by a few track sections. Rounding out the
top 5 were 4th place driver Rick "The Hammer" Hubbert with a good
run of 199 laps and 5th place finisher Billy "Preacher" Grace with
193. The JL Sportsman race started the day and it looked like Johnny
was gonna be on his way to the top of the charts, but later fell
victim to the cautions and didn't finish the VHORS SS race, knocking
him from contention for total laps. Matt Patrick had the same fate,
cautioning out of the JL Sportsman race, tallying up only 138 laps,
thus eliminating himself from any chance of a podium finish.
Rick "The Hammer" Hubbert had the worst day this reporter has ever
seen him have, cautioning out of an unheard of two races and having
only one top 5 finish for the day. Stay tuned for the last update
from the back woods of Maine on Saturdays Big Bend Blowout!!!! The
Last report will be the last race held of the day "The Fray Race"!!

News Flash#5 ... Date Line Saturday 5/17/08 Big Bend Speedway... In
the last and featured race of the day, Patrick dominates the Fray
field in what could only be described as an area code of his own...
Laying down a blistering 204 laps with only one off, the closest
competitor was the "Preacher" in second with a very nice run of 191
laps after offs and Johnny "Lightning" Grace 3rd with 189 laps after
offs.. Rounding out the top 5 was Bruce "Madman" Gordon, 4th with 187
laps and a tie for 5th between Mary Darman and Steve Nelson both
laying down a respectable 186 laps after offs. The Madman Bruce
Gordon had the second place car with some Un-Godly straighaway speed,
blowing by everything including the corners, but offs would be his
downfall, relagating him the 4 place spot. I say Bruce, putting a
fray style body on that spaceship might have had me worried!! Though
Patrick won the Indy and Fray it was only enough laps to bring him
out of the cellar in total laps for the day, finishing a mere 7 or so
after his disappointing run in the JL Sportsman race. Note: Johnny
was heard as saying "Where the HECK is Hiram and Henry when ya need
em?" Hmmmmm my retort to that comment... "Bring em On, I think I beat
them too last time"(LOL).. I'm thinking that will change with their
next visit,though I was sweating bullets on their last visit the
whole time!!! Well all, that was the last race of the day and brings
us to an end of a great day of racing. Thank You John & Mary for
another great time, always the most gracious of host, putting up with
this crew!! A big Thank's goes out to the 14 racers who showed up,
traveling from at least 4 different states on a week or so notice for
this special event!!
