I'm looking at getting the Scalextric Challenger System that's been out and adapting it to my Artin layout. I do race with the club once every 2 weeks or so, so the other 90% I'm still the "lone-wolf" racer and need someone to run cars around with other than myself.... maybe I just need more friends (sniff) LOL! Anyways, moving forward... I've read the review on the home page, but would like to hear the pro's & con's from others now who have/had the system and how it's going with it. As well as can brakes be added to it as well as I have brakes set-up on my home track? I'd hate to see this thing drift right off the ledge after a 21ft. straight-away... BAM! AND... anyone have one to sell maybe, maybe? Or just save my money and buy another regular Scalextric? Your thoughts. Matthew Shelf queens...I've heard of those, but I bought it to race it, not look at it.

I have a 75' Carerra track and have not been able to race it reliably on my current layout. It hits the 225º uphill Corkscrew and it speeds through it like a straight. It deslots and its back to the beginning. I've tried everyting... reversing the diection, decreasing voltage, more magnets, adding high grip tires to the front, w/ all the same results. I've even combined a few. In case you are wondering how it works....The furnished magnet marks the start/finish line for the Challanger. Throttle is simply varied by automatically adjusting the voltage based on the linear position on the track. The first time the car goes around it maps the distance along the track. It does this using a rotary encoder attached to the front wheels. There is another encoder attached to the guide flag and the guide position is recorded for each corresponding position (front wheel encoder) on the track. After one time around, it takes a quicker, but slow lap around to test the initial speeds and track maping. This is when it programs it's final speed. I have not had success with a single good racing lap after the two programming laps. It gets 2/3 of the way and then it blows the corkscrew. I am holding on to it in hopes it is a layout limitation. Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hi Matthew, I've owned 3 Challengers - bought one as soon as it came out, loved it, it died, and I bought two more which are still cranking. I bought one for each lane so I can just leave them programmed. I found varying the voltage to the Challenger lane worked to make them competitive with even no-mag cars. And having traffic to run with did improve my ability in racing human drivers. I use Scaley Sport track and have never had a problem getting the car to learn the track. I think there is a max lap length limit of 110 feet if I recall correctly. You don't need to add brakes. The lane the Challenger runs on is at full power all the time - the car comes with a shorting plug for the Scaley pb and a couple other brands (probably not Artin) that you plug into the controller jack. If you have drivers stations you can short the black and white leads with an alligator clip. I'm sure the Challenger does brake but this is handled internally by the electrical components in the car.
