Is the insanity just reserved for the American market?

Real close to $41 when VAT is taken off, and this is much less than what slot cars typically sell for over there. Sounds like the pricing is more appropriate.

The cost you see on MRE probably reflects the lower cost of sending products within the European Union, which I believe is cheaper than shipping into the US.

Yeah, and I'm wondering how big a part of the cost comes from shipping. Whenever I get a car on eBay from Spain, shipping is outrageous. The difference
in shipping alone could account for the ridiculous prices we're seeing from NINCO and Fly.
Then again, their shipping charges always sucked...

And it goes without saying that production costs are MUCH higher in Spain. But then recent new labor laws in China will increase costs of production in China.

I've heard that when divided out, it cost $6 per car in shipping.

Can't be too ridiculous if you are still PAYING for it (you mentioned you are buying cars from Spain)...People are funny this way, we all still buy things we apparently do not like to buy...like gasoline for our SUVs (super ugly vehicles)...I am old enough to remember laughing at guys that drove pickups in highschool...ahh the good ol days... Me? I won't buy this car even though I love all the 911's of this type by Fly (they are awesome on wood). In fact, you could ship me the car for free and I would not put it on my track...it affects me that much!!

Well, they are a bit toy-like in appearance. And it would embarrass me if I showed it to someone and said that I liked it, for whatever reason. Bruce at Cincy
Slots and Gene at Slot Car Place regularly sell cars for below window sticker MSRP . I think that we all know and appreciate this... but even if "the
market settles out" so to speak, I still don't think I could buy one and still feel good about myself the next morning. I am very curious now to see
what the Fly "Flyer" Daytona Prototype Grand Am cars will be like. I have higher hopes for them... they certainly couldn't be any worse... could
they? Oh gawd, I hope not!

Ok, I got some actual information about these cars. Wanna know why they're called "Poly"?
In Spain there is a chain of stores, not slot shops, sort of like Hobby Town here in the US...but bigger I think. The chain is called POLY, these Fly cars are a promotion at those stores. So these cars are only sold in Spain at those stores. He said the price was about 30Euro for these cars at those shops. Which at the current rate of exchange is 30.00 EUR=46.4893 USD. So even there these cars cost about the same. BTW, the "Fast Kits" were also a promotion that had something to do with a magazine (which was in Spain I believe). |
