Hello guys, anyone have a video of so-called "Ninco hop"? I prefer "high-torque hop" since other companies have this issue as well.

Oh, is that what it's called. I've almost ground the tires away on my Ninco cars thinking they were still out of round. I don't seem to have the
same trouble with my other brands of cars after truing the tires.

I believe this hop is cause by a weak chassis design. I don't like to assign blame to Ninco frankly because other companies have this problem too. It's unfair to solely blame Ninco for this. Dave |

The problem with the tires/wheels wouldn't be really the issue. What I'm talking about is, from a standing start (or accelerating out of a slow
corner), gun the throttle and watch the car's back end start hopping up and down.

I think it's a combination of high torque (Ninco motors are very torquey), slightly weak chassis, and loose bushings/motor. Glue everything down (bushings and motor), get the mesh set properly, and reinforce the chassis between the motor mount and the rear bushing holder. As more companies release higher-torque motors, we're going to see more of this. As much as I like their products, Ninco really made it famous, though.

Kurt I agree it's the combination of what you suggest. If it's all glued up it's MUCH better and usually gone entirely.

Good list, Brian. It also helps to glue the tires to the wheels so there's no slip. One of the other things we haven't mentioned is that we're moving towards fly-paper tires. If there's some slip in the tires, even the hoppiest
cars settle down a bit. But when we stick tires with more and more grip on the cars while putting in motors with more and more torque, we just make the
situation worse.

I don't have any of the fancy new angle winder boxer motored super cars that are now popular, but here's the method I used to get rid of the hop and
quiet down my old Ninco inline cars. I used lengths of brass tube to tie the chassis and motor together and strengthen the chassis fore/aft. You could use
whatever material you like such as popsickle sticks if you wanted. My cars run very quietly now and the hop is gone, very quick and easy. Just make sure the
chassis is flat and where you want it before glueing.

Even anglewinders can benefit from bracing between rear axle holders and motor area, to keep the rear axle from moving, relative to the motor. |
