Light- no doubt they're enjoyable to race as is- the problem is if you're running in a race series and you're looking for an extra .1-.3 second a
lap within the rules. We put mine in each lane on a fun day with friends and rotate the drivers through each car and the racing is close, and if one of the
cars is a dog, everyone has to deal with it. Different than trying hard to do well in a club or league.
I tested my NSX, 3 Supras, and a Mosler against each other. All stock, etc. Truing wheels and tires will net you some time. At the time, I didn't examine how much mag downforce each car has. All I know was the NSX is a tick faster then the 3 Supras. They're all say... within .3 secs a lap on a 7.5ish second lap time, maybe closer to 8. Now- if I take all my NINCO buttons and find one that's a lot stonger than the others and then set up my car, and there are no rules concerning max downforce.... I get the classic Mark Donohue "unfair advantage". Guys who are new to serious racing wonder why my car is totally dominating them. They get frustrated because even though I might have a bit more track time and experience, I'm killing them, and I'm a clumsy eccentric. "How am I doin' it!?" these guys are thinking. Been there and done that. It leads to frustration and the guy gives up. I got frustrated, until I sat down and looked at what I was doing and first, realized not every aftermarket slot car tire is equal, which actually got me into the rough ballpark learning that fact alone. Its why the IHSR guys are very open about what we do, why and how. I know Larry/Mr56P's cars are meticulously prepared far better than mine, they're very well crafted. no secrets other than the fact he works very hard at it and puts a lot of skill and effort into his chassis and motors. Somehow, we're still close at the end of the day. Still not sure how I held him off last race. It's why I bring things like this up because I like racing people who know I'm above board and who know I'll help them even of it means they beat me. I want a very pure challenge where it comes down to the driver's approach and skills in as large a part as is possible. Call me old fashioned. Bob |

Bob,
That's why our club went non-mag. We had guys that spent $$$$ searching out the best magnet with meters. They dominated the class. Some of us got lucky and also found good magnets right out of the box or bag. No magnet leveled the playing field for us.
Anyone can restore a classic car, but it takes a real Hotrodder to cut one up and make it cool!

For non magnet racing, Ninco are by far the best. The will give anything a run for there money. Thats why when the Colorado Slot Car Club races modern GT its a
field full of Ninco's.
