Steve sent me an unreleased 68 Torino to paint up and I decided on AJ Foyts 1969 Daytona 500 ride..
I had an extra Carrera NASCAR interior so I robbed some parts from it and trimmed them down so they would mount on a flat piece of plastic.
I normally use the Champion interiors but I didn't have one long enough to go from the leading edge of the front widshield to the end of that long back window..
I trimmed the instrument panel out of a Champion interior and figured I could mix and match all that stuff to end up with a relatively light interior.
I trimmed up the body and scuffed the outside with 400 grit paper so the paint would stick well.
Next I masked off the front and rear glass.. don't forget to put some tape on the inside as well to avoid overspray getting in there.
After shooting the base coat of white, I masked off some more and sprayed the dark metallic blue areas.
I pulled off the masking and got busy with the very thin black pinstripes that outline the blue areas. I used thicker striping to trim out the windows.
Here's a shot during decal application.. you can also see the finished interior and chassis waiting for the new shell to be done.
I did have to modify the axle location on the front end as the wheelbase on the Torino is just a little bit too long to use the stock Artic location.
I also added a strip of styrene to each side of the chassis to widen it just a bit.
Here's the end result after clearcoating.. If you want to see more finished pictures, just pop over to the 1/32 board as they are posted there~
Thanks for the look ~!
