Hi, I bought a 4 lane power passer set for my kids. We have yet to get 4 cars on the track at once. The cars constantly deslott at the lane change section. Usually every 2-3 laps.
The guide pin is hitting the track at the point where the lane splits. Also, the cars will stall
on the curves of the inside lane. The tire slides off of the inner edge of the track and the guide pin binds in the slot. As for the deslotting, I think it is caused by to much side to side play in the guide pin. Instead of retracting when it hits the little hump it becomes lodged in
the guide pin hole. For now I am running two lanes with no passing sections. SCW sent us
some regular straights to replace the LC tracks but I would like to solve the problem if possible. I am very disappointed!!!!! My whole family gets soo fustrated that we can't enjoy
the hobby. P.S. When one car deslots, the power surge causes the other car to deslot. It runs on AC current so I'm not sure what options are available for power supplies. I could
ditch the Power passer and switch to DC and standard cars. I would appreciate any advice.

That frustration caused me to go to regular Artin 1/43, though I am trying to collect some PP running gear to run 2 cars on each lane of my fig-8 wo lane change. Maybe Mr. P has a solution.

There's a spring that keeps downward pressure on your guide pin and it keeps the pin from hitting the hood when it encounters the lane change track. You might want to look under the bodies and make sure it's there. I too am frustrated on getting these cars to change lanes. Like Nerf I run mosty dc cars, yours can be easily converted if you want to go that route but you will need a dc power supply. And a regulated dc power supply will eliminate your problem of one car deslotting when the first goes off.

The springs seem to operate when the pin is pressed and released by hand. I notices some pits in the pins so I smoothed them out w/ sandpaper. I also tried replacing the pins but
it didn't help. The cars will deslot at any speed but more frequently as speed is increased. I have seen power supplies on ebay that have both AC and DC output. Would the AC side work
with POWERPASSER and stop the power surge.

One thing I found is you've got to slow down a good bit to get the lane change to work properly. I had a terrible time keeping those cars in the slot also. SCW offers "tweeker" magnets. They made a world of difference. You may want to consider investing a some. Now I run Artin cars without tweeker magnets(not power passers) on my Jiada track and they run great.

I have the tweaker magnets installed on the cars. They help on curves but reduce the skill level and fun ( my opinion). Great for the kids!

Where's my manners? Welcome to the forum dpitts! Sorry to hear you're having troubles. Most any 15vac power supply will work with your cars. The problem is the amperage or lack of. Without opening a can of electrical theory lets say voltage controls speed and amps control torque. The cars deslot when one cars stops or derails sending all the available voltage and amps to the other car instead of splitting the amps between them. This sudden increase in torque is what sends your car off its path. Your stock transformer is 400ma and these motors can pull just under 1 amp so you want a power supply with 1 amp per lane. A regulated power supply mantains a constant voltage to help prevent this from happening from the voltage. I keep a couple of cars with heavy magnet and rear guide pins for the novice racers at my track, helps them to run with the big dogs. dave

How many guesses do I get?

The only experience for me with lane changing was forty years ago with the AMT Authentic Model Turnpike. The cars actually steered the front tires to accomplish the maneuver. Do your cars steer or does the track switch, ala railroading? I have no idea. The two methods will have different fixes for the same problem and I may be able to help you figure it out if I understand the mechanism.

Thanks for the warm welcome and great info. My wife says that I bought the set for myself (not the kids). The front wheels on the cars do not steer. It's the Artin Power Passer set. It uses spring loaded guide pins and special track sections for lane changes.This site gives an explanation as to how it works. www.homeracingworld.com/artinpowerpassers.htm

Welcome to the forum dpitts!

the AC side of a transformer will work with the power passers. If you got 2 sets, you can use one wallwart and one controller for car A and the second wall wart with the second controllers for car B. this should stop the power surge.

for the deslotting, i can´t help you, i never got a power passer set.
