Watching it right now!!
I was a bit disappointed in "Grand Prix" that they showed earlier, but there were some cool vintage F1s in it. Mike Tattooed Slotfreak It is better to be at the Devil's right hand than in his path. |

Haven't seen "Green Helmet" in over 30-35 years. Usually considered one of the better racing movies of all time. Maybe one of the top 5-10 films.
"Grand Prix" isn't too bad when you fluff by things like plot and dialogue (Though I do like Mifune and Celli in their respective roles) and just enjoy the racing footage. Usually thought of as one of the 3 best racing films of all time- then again, that shows you there's aren't many really *good* racing films. "Days of Thunder" still honks me off because it could have been so much better, so much more than the stinkburger it was for 95% of the film. I love "LeMans" (even though the dialogue sometimes slays me), and one of these days I'll get "Speed Merchants" from the web site- Those are the other 2 films thought of as the other 2 of the top 3 racing films. "Grand Prix" is a classic -- great flick. John Frankenheimer was a genius. Pick up the recent release on DVD and you get an extra disc with a feature
on the making of the movie that will blow you away. Also, some great features including Formual 1 racing in the 60's, interviews with racing greats, and a
fantastic guided tour of Brands Hatch.

Watched "The Green Helmet" last night. Pretty good old movie. The racing footage isn't as impressive as "Grand Prix", but I actually
think the storyline of the movie is better. Worth seeing, and some especially nice footage of LeMans and the Mille Miglia.

I caught it probably halfway-through last night during one of the racing scenes. Good movie.

I read the book the "Green helmet" was based on by the same title as well- no clue how to grab a copy of it, tho. Was a good read for a 12-year-old
lad.

Oh yeah, the story is strong- It's one of the reasons it's a good one. I still remember the scene where he hangs the car too far over the corner and
throws out his co-driver and kills him- scary stuff.
A lot of racing movies are only worth watching for the cars- The "Lively Set", for instance, is really only worth watching for the Chrysler Turbine car racing a Facel-Vega at the end. Really- I'd say "LeMans" is just that too- but it's just so superior in that way in terms of the race cinematogaphy. Bob |

I thought the footage of the old Jags was impressive. That's not something you see everyday.
The opening scene when the guy gets tossed from the Jag was viscious! It lets you know how crazy it was back then. |
