The thing is, we consistently, as a market, reject solutions. Cars aren't the big deal. The US Military is the largest consumer of oil in the world. We
have 225 tactical naval vessels, and only 80 are nuclear. We have tons of facilities that rely on oil for heat and electricity. While the government
can't really affect the market in any positive way, they can clean their own house. We should stop buying oil for the reserves for two years. We should
take that money and invest it in making our navy nuclear, and our bases energy self sufficient with hydro, wind, solar, and geothermal. All initial saving
should be rolled back in until the program is complete, and spread to any government facilities where this is viable. The increased demand for solar panels
and wind generators would prompt entrepreneurs to mass produce and bring costs down, for you and I. retrofitting the ships would also put some idle shipyards
back to work. Laborers can't install the reactors, but they can do all the prep work.
We also need more nuclear reactors, but nobody wants them in their own town. if we could make the government, and electric producing facilities oil-independent, it would help the market.

Stranger pneumatic vehicle | ||

For about a year,I have been mulling over in my mind a pneumatic powered car. An accumulator will be supplied 250 psi from a two stage compressor off a two
cylinder diesel burning recycled cooking oil. An air motor will drive one rear wheel and be computer controlled. The rotary motor will be intrinsically smooth
and easy to muffle. The cooking oil, I believe, produces no contaminants with the exhaust. The engine will only run when the air drops below the accumulator
setting.
Air pressure is a very powerful force. The motor will not need 250 psi. The high pressure accumulator provides a "battery" or energy storage. Probably 60 psi with the proper surface area in the motor vanes (3x3 would be 9 sq. in. or at 60 psi a total of 540 lbs of force, per vane) will move a lightweight car respectably. Gobs of torque are produced by air motors, towit, air ratchets and impacts. Proper gearing will give me enough speed while retaining ample torque. I am going to make a test model utilizing a weed eater motor and a small compressor. I need to find an old vacuum cleaner with a good impeller and turn it into an air motor. Should work by pressurizing the outlet and using a gear or pulley system from the shaft. A friend has some old go-kart frames to supply a test chassis. If it works, I will make one big enough to drive around town and collect used cooking oil from restaurants. The price of crude just hit 122 dollars a barrel. Gas is already $3.90 a gallon here for the cheapest blend. Taxation is rampant and out of control. The Dollar is a joke around the world. If memory from History class serves me, we 86'd England for taxing the hell out of the American people while our voice in our own Government was ignored. What is different today? How much longer are we going to wait before we take back our Constitution from the idiots in Washington who malign it wantonly, and give the country back to the people? I don't want to be a rabble rouser, but I'm scared to death I'm going to need my guns to defend myself and my property from my own Government. This would include any official who attempts to appropriate any of my firearms. Good luck, pal, vests don't protect you from a head shot before you can even see me. 10 in the bull @300 yds

well we all know that the gov can only push the nation just so far before the nation as a whole does something about it. Usually the gov doesn't like to
well when the nation takes matters into there own hands. back in the late 70's the gas prices did the same thing so time will tell. we just have to wait
and see what happens. oh yea by the way I did mow the lawn cause the wife said it had to b done.

Stranger - I believe you're a little late to the party.
http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive/new_cars/4217016.html I've read a few threads that were talking about air power over the last few years, many were designed around recharging at air fill up stations, one of the big hurdles everyone was trying to overcome was the big cost of compressing the gas to a high enough pressure to allow the cars to travel any useful distance between refills. I believe that if a student on a part time lifeguard salary can build an electric car using (readily available off the shelf items) that costs 15 dollars a month to run, goes 50 miles on a charge and does 50mph, we can all do something to change the predicament we're in (esp. with our slot car knowledge) http://www.ecomodder.com/blog/2008/01/26/16-year-old-builds-electric-pickup-truck/ Unfortunately, forces bigger than us are forcing companies to shelf projects that make sense (seems something similar happened in the 70's) - a couple of weeks ago, GM was quietly asked to make their hydrogen platform disappear - this hydrogen car/van/truck was set to go into full production in a mere couple of years. The design was great, one platform, many bodies - kinda like Artin. I'm not going to get into how I fell about everything because I could write 2000 books! BUT one of the biggest problems is that society has let corporate america walk all over them for too long, allowing the corporations to grow beyond what is socially acceptable. Don't get me wrong, capitalism is OK, however, uncontrolled greed is not - we're at a point in time where we can not reverse the problems created because it has all spun completely out of control, the government isn't big/strong enough to enforce industry to change to a standard that could be considered somewhat "economically acceptable" (thus the rape at the pumps as only one example) - unfortunately, unless the PEOPLE do something - (because our elected "representatives" - haha - certainly won't) we will continue to be raped, pillaged and plundered. |

Hey Matt - where can more info be found on GM's hydrogen vehicles?
Part of the reason our elected "representation" choose not to represent the wishes of their constituents is the large sums of PAC donations made by corporations. They can't find the guts to bite that hand and give government control back to the people - where it started. Nor will they serve for one or two terms and let someone else take the chair - to much money and to many benefits involved! What job allows you to travel to work on Monday (all day) and from work on Friday (all day) AND be paid a sizeable wage? With all the government holidays and personal days taken we are lucky if these people put in enough hours to make for 6 months of a real job! I think Matt is right that it will be up to the people of this country to find the path around the use of non-renewable energy. Ethanol isn't the complete answer as the manufacture effects food sources and uses considerable non-renewable fuel / energy resources. |

theres a individual just north of town who captures the gases off chicken manure and heats all his chicken houses and hog units with it. Most people
wouldn't even think chicken manure was that important.
