Just transferring some old 8mm movie film and there was about 2 minutes of a stock car race from 1957. Not sure where, perhaps Ohio or somewhere in the
midwest? Anyhow, interestingly, the crowd was immediately behind the catch wire...not a fence...imagine some I-beams vertical with three tires around them
(half of the tire painted white - the track side) and then simply 3 heavy gauge wires running between them...on the other side, the people! Crazy. One scene
even shows a car wiping out into the "fence" and the race kept on going - opposite of todays caution for a stray gum wrapper. I also noticed the cars
had what looked like taxi signs on their roofs - the number of the car on some type of metal sign so you could tell who was who in close action.
Very very cool.
So, who's up on their 1957 car numbers? Here are the ones I could make out: 290, 254, 271, 280, 281, 291, 294, 125, etc...there was also a BRICKHILL red tow truck of some sort (looked more like a paddy wagon!).
Anyone know where this was filmed? Year?
