I would go plastic, so your track can also be a demo for selling track. If you can get Artin product in stock I would consider it, but it seems that their distribution is lacking. Carrera is nice, but you need a ton of space, and how many of your current friends/customers race 1/24 hard body slots? Ninco track is great, especially for no-mag racing, but it costs about twice what scalextric does becuase production is tied closer to the Euro.

To me the choice is obvious, Scalextric has the bulk of the US market, so go with the brand leader. You can also set up your four lane track to be switchable from analogue to digital. You may not be a fan of digital personally, but 2 out of 3 slot car sets bought today are digital. Scalextric is quickly becoming the leader in digital, probably due to lower end cost and broader distribution.

Scaley track gets a bad rap because the flexibility that makes it great for rec room floors is not ideal for permanent tracks. If you spend a little time securing it it's just fine. I have seen a few lousy 4lane scaley tracks with gaps and poor conductivity, but that was due to a total lack of maintenance. And there is a huge benefit from the 3 1/8" lane spacing, you can fit your 4lane track on a significantly smaller footprint, or have a longer track in the same space.

I know that it's tough to keep the roof over you head in this business, especially with this economy and the weakening dollar. My bet is that focusing on Scalextric is the best bet for long term profitability.
