I have come to the conclusion you guys have got the best of two worlds. I dwell in the 1:43 Forum, thats my home track scale. I have often considered doing my next track in 1:32 scale. The new chasses and aluminum wheels and silicones and many motors to choose have brought the 1:43 cars up to the mark...except body detail for realism. Well, the guys have been cranking out resin bodies that are great.
Here's my point : if I go with 1:32 track, I can still run the smaller cars, also. The track will allow more sliding thru the curves while giving a more realistic width for the lanes at that scale. By using geographic and flora scenery with man-made structures at a minimum, the scales won't clash in that respect. I'm going to go out on a limb and say most of you have some 1:43 slot cars and run them on your 1:32 track.
I began research and development for a slot track sweeper truck. I discovered it was slightly too bulky a package for 1:43. I turned my attention to the next larger common scale, 1:32. Does your group search Wal-Mart, K-Mart and all the Dollar stores for plastic cars and trucks? Many have motors identical to a small scale slot car and run off batteries. Some have three or four feet of a very nice lightweight supple wire pair for motor leads. Some have onboard battery and switch. Well, I was on the prowl when I got in the pool toys aisle by mistake and found this boat with a jet pump. Yes, a jet pump. It has an attachment I threw away which restricts the flow and makes pressure enough for a rooster tail. Big grins, but N/A for a sweeper truck, I need flow and airspeed to convey dust and debris from the track into a bin. A strong vacuum is created as the centrifugal blower finds air at the housing inlet to blow out the exhaust duct...right into my dust bin, which will ride in the bed of the Dodge truck. An attachment similar to a home vacuum nozzle will hover just clear of the track surface and really suck up the FOD. All the boat shell that does not support the equipment will be dremeled away for a nice compact housing and motor mount. The prototype is promised to a European friend of mine for review and exposure over there first. The camera car totes a wireless television camera which will document the on-track testing and hopefully prove a valuable de-bugging aid. It's chassis is a stock Artin 1:43. I have no slot car in 1:32 scale. Does the front-drive chassis of black plastic appear to you all as a proper 1:32 scale fit compared to the Artin 1:43? That's me in the yellow hat, hi guys.....tire and wheel options
Will someone do me a schematic for a blower motor / truck motor circuit off the same guide flag braids? I am going to use an old AT 250w power supply with +12vdc at 4 or 5 amps. I want the blower to see full voltage simultaneously with the truck motor creeping for maximum vacuum effect. This chassis has a battery compartment underslung, so a switch and lights may be added. I'm not going that far yet, or maybe I will, who knows......
It has a gear reduction transmission and front wheel drive. Still runs un-realistically fast for a sweeper, even at the designed operation voltage of 3 volts ( 2 AA batteries ). I will add a pusbar for obvious reasons. I don't know jack about digital tracks, could you add a chip or something and have it do the whole layout by changing lanes? Or retrieve stalled cars? I am going to finish this quickly and do a market research in Europe, as I mentioned. The economy is opposite ours over there. People are spending money shamelessly and my friend says slot racing is very big business overseas. I believe him. I visit SlotForum often. Hopefully, things will allow me to become a vendor on this site for the sweeper truck.
