What is a good replacment tire for the Artin cars for Artin track ?? |
Lead | |
|
I took out the Artin cars to let the kids beat them up in stead of my good stuff but they have been sitting awhile and the tires are kinda shiny and hard. I
want the kids to have fun and keep their interest and these won't even get traction in the starights. I figure I need about 30 tires . Thanks in
advance.

Why not replace with Artins? They are cheap. We just started using Ortmans which do make them faster but cost $6.00/pr

Kevin at K&D makes tires for nearly or all Artin cars. He is an advertiser and regular contributer to this site. His tires are softer than than the
original versions and stick pretty well. If you are installing low profile tires, it would be wise to glue them to the wheel due to the soft compound of the
tire. Last tires that I bought from him were running $4.00 a pair.

And you can also sand those tires to remove that shine...then clean with a little Ronsonol lighter fluid until you want to invest in new ones.
But for after-market tires...follow advice above. "They Didn't Say You Couldn't" - Smokey Yunick

I/m having second thoughts of my comment regarding K& D tire prices. The price might be $4.50 rather than the $4.00 I stated earlier. I just bought a big
bach of about 20 pairs a couple of months ago so you would think my memory would serve me better

If you can find the right size for the Artins, Scalextric sells packages of 4 silicone tires for about $7.
They grip nicely on wood or plastic. dennis |

I would follow Harry's advice and sand off the surface oxidation. That's what makes them get hard, but it usually doesn't go very deep.
That would for sure buy you some time, cheap. Once you start running silicones, you really can't run rubber tires anymore and you have to keep the track meticulously clean. Kelly McNeil sells the same urethane rubber tires that K&D does, but they are a little less expensive (like 50-55 cents a pair) if he has them in stock. But if you are buying 30 sets, that little bit ads up pretty quickly. They are my replacement tire of choice and I just bought 5 more sets a day or two ago. Kelly posts as "kelmac" and his tires are called Tru-Grips. You can e-mail him for availability at: kelmac1@msn.com Here is his Web-site: http://kellystrugrip.com

I do make those Artin replacement tires and they are just $4 a pair, which is $.05 higher per pair then Kelmac's tires, which were selling for $3.95 the
last time I looked. We both use the same type compound in our tires so they should be pretty equal. He is a great guy who got me started in the tire making
business. I also make 1/24 tires that sell for $5 a pair as well as 1/43 and HO tires which are cheaper of course.
I made some tires for Nor Cal Mike which he uses on his Fat boy chassis's instead of the stock tire. He claims they have a nice tight fit ! They are actually an older Scaley F1 tire. BRS Hobby sells my Artin tires so
make sure that you support him too!
Thanks for the plugs and Happy Motoring, Kevin

a bit rounder profile in the side wall, a bit less in diameter in the inner (rim) size and in the outside dimensions. They fit the Artin wheel a little bit
snugger than the FB's which is a good thing with softer compound tires IMHO. And of course, these tires stick really good like all of Kevins tires
