Griffrph wrote: Yes I used the Scalextric Guard rails. They look like the Armco Barriers that were used on most tracks up until the tracks started to change over to safe
walls.

Track Paint Type & Copper tape...
|
Tom,
What color and paint brand did you use on your track? Did you place copper tape over the rails? I got my carrera track ordered so I cam duplicate your layout. I would stil like for you to contact me vai my private email since I'm sure there will be a lot I will need to ask you as my building precess starts. Looks like you use 3/8 inch plywood fror your table. Did you ever consider using the MDF (or what ever it's called) over plywood? If you did, why did you decide to stay with the plywood? sgriffrph@msn.com Steve |

The asphalt areas of the track are painted with Krylon dark gray primer, the curbs are painted with Krylon White Primer, and the borders in te corners are
Krylon Camo Khaki over Krylon White Primer. You should always scrub track to remove all of the mold release Agent before painting, and always use the Krlon
Primers as the first coat on any track, for that matter anything you are painting.
You only need to use MDF if you are going to make a routed track. I did use thin 1/8" foam under the track for sound deadening. I haven't laid copper tape yet, that should be one of the last things you do after you make sure that everthing is working well, and you know you will not have to remove pieces of track to work on the layout. I could contact you through e-mail, but I think there will be many people who would like to keep up with this thread, if you don't have any objections. It may have some use for our newer hobby members. :

Track Elevation Question...
|
Tom, Could you provide me with more info on how you did the track elevations? I am like you in the fact I don't won't my elevations to be real drastic.
Did you secure your track to your table surface by any means such as hot glue, nails, screws, etc? Did you fill in the joints where the tracks fit together with any thing? I've read of some people who do yhis with plastic track but I don't have clu as to what they use. I assume you are using an after market power supply? Can the Scalextric silver guard rails be purchased individually? I got my Carrera track ordered and hopefully I can begin my version of your layout. I'm worse that a kid at Christmas!! I'm sure I'll have a couple hundred more questions but for what ever reason I have been intimidated doinf track elevations. Thanks, Steve Griffin, Alabama |
