I'm actually painting up a 1:1 Simpson Shark helmet. I've used duplicolor as the primer and plan to use duplicor flat black next. (I want it to resemeble Earnhart Junior's flat black helmet he wears) I was wondering, if I use a clear coat over the flat black will it shine or leave it flat? Thanks Sideways

Testor's for example makes a gloss clear, semi-gloss clear and a flat clear lacquers under the 'Model Master' brand and sell other clear coats under the names of dullcoat and glosscoat in 3oz. If you have an air brush you can use automotive paint with a flatening additive. Jr.'s helmut is painted that way. No clear coat, but black with a flatening additive to give it a satin finish. Some auto paint suppliers can also mix up some and make you up an spray can if you don't have a spray gun. Anyone can restore a classic car, but it takes a real Hotrodder to cut one up and make it cool!
