FWIW:
I have returned to slot car racing after a 12 year or so absence. I was a slotter back in the 60s from about '62 to '69, some in the 70s and 80s, and
a bunch in the 90s... almost all of it home racing except for some commercial track racing in the 60s.
I just received my first "new" car in years. It is the Monogram "Fireball Roberts" '63 Galaxie replica car. Folks, I am seriously
BLOWN AWAY with the quality and appearance of this model. It is QUANTUMS better than the stuff I raced in the 60s. In fact, today's cars are simply
AWESOME, any category! Factor in the new digital element that is growing, the HUGE amount of product available, etc, and slot car racing has NEVER had it
better. This from an old grey beard that was there at the onset of this hobby.
Slotheads: THESE ARE THE GOOD OL' DAYS!!!
Better get it while the gettin's good.

Welcome back, I got back into slotting after almost 25 years off and I just started last February.......If you think that car has details oyu havent
seen anything yet.....the quality on some of these things are not like models cars but they are model cars with motors , its incredible and Im glad to be back
in slotting now

that's supposed to say 'really good', but it sounded too funny to take it out], and you're just scratching the surface.

slot cars? No, I think not. Scale Miniature Auto Racing, is more like it. Slot cars are those flying doorstops one sees at commercial slot car tracks. Welcome
back.

Your choice of car was a good one. They run nicely. Some cars out there aren't near as nice, particularly some of the other revellogram offferings. They
haul around the track rather nicely, don't they?

Hey Ming, welcome back to the fold!
I can't say much for the 1/32 scale back in the day. But my uncle and my older brother (+7 yrs.) ran at 1/24 scale commercial tracks back in the '60's. I ran HO's in the '70's; tracks he got me started on. I guess so I wouldn't mess with his stuff  .
Anyway when I got my first Artin layout nearly 2 yrs ago, they were both stunned at the details, speed and ease of use. And they haven't seen Digital yet! I think you are absolutely correct in you're assesment of the present-day sport/hobby my latest slotcar friend (we're all friends here, right?  ) These days will be looked back upon as a "Golden Age".
