Has anyone heard of this digital format? It's called BLST (Best Lane Slot Track). I spotted this on the 'European Board' and it looks pretty wild.
Still not sure how it works exactly, but looks pretty neat http://www.slotforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32301

Never heard of it, but it does sound crazy-awesome. I like the plexi walls too.

Blueaxe thanks for sharing this! - Cool concept and that track is very well done. I read the whole thread and my understanding is the BLST software senses car
position and determines if the cars are routed via the lane changers away from the best lane and given the opportunity to pass. Sounds like the driver
doesn't have lane change control like the digital systems I know. The software forces you to be a true "sport" and moves you out of the racing
line if a faster car is approaching from behind. Not sure I'd like this.

system makes the best lane changes for the second car to get it out front ......I think it also avoids collisions....check this out

Titan7170 - that could be, it's a complicated system no doubt about that!
This statement from page 2 of the thread lead me to believe the slower driver is taken off the best line in some cases. Although the purpose is to avoid a collision, not enforce sportman driving.
- Second Case : You are overtaken by another car. When approaching a lane changer that would let you continue on the best lane, the BLST system can decide based on that other car position to not let you do so to avoid a collision and drive you on a parallel track to the other car one. Regardless, this is the most fascinating digital system I've seen yet! Alan

Asmith wrote: yup it looks like a real nice system, regardless though, I like that the cars dont run the same line, makes it more random.......I would love to see this
implemented in a 3 or 4 lane system......that would be fantastic!
One other thing is I would wonder how they could make it driver controlled it would be much more difficult bacause now you are talking about all drivers having controll of each lane switcher at the same time.........you can see how lets say 3 or 4 cars right behind eachother would cause a problem with the lane switcher at one point of the track? which is why they prolly went with an automatic system.

Paul Tracy wouldn't like it at all. Neither would AJ Foyt. Somehow it reminds me of the little Autorama cars at DizzyWorld that run between little curbs
and take the driver choices out of the picture. Frankly, I'd rather run my own way than to have a computer program tell me how I must do it...

My pleasure for bringing this to the board's attention
, and I am
definitely going to look into this.
Titan, I think you have it right, allowing the second-runnung car to take the 'best lane' makes it more competitive, keeping the front-runnung car on it's toes. Pretty Cool Actually for me this is all moot, cause while building a routed track would cost me next to nothing $ wise (I work in a cabinet shop with a CNC router, and have the whole place at my disposal) I just can't seem to put even enough time together to practice the darn guitar lately, besides I wouldn't have the space until I got rid of my existing layout (which I am not ready to do yet). The other mitigating factor of course is the cost of the 'brains' for this outfit, I'm sure that ain't gonna be cheap! I am going to do some research on this for sure!

Interesting, but not my cup of tea.
Now, the 14 lane changers? That's my idea of how a digital track would be a BLaST.

The system was primarily developed for the rental market , i.e. commercial use in arcades and bowling alley's although it does have a lot of potential
for home use. The track comes in modules, (rather like the Slotfire system). The developer is Italian and a regular contributor to Slot Forum. The electronics have been tested to the ninth degree and are now pretty full proof. If you want more info he can be contacted via SF. Regards Alan |
