Help! I need opinions on an Ebay situation, please weigh in *UPDATE* |

I won an auction last night and the guy has asked me to reconsider since he lost so much on the deal. He has over $300 invested and is upset that he didn't
get more for the stuff. He was selling it so he could buy an analog set for his boys. I'm not a jerk normally and the fact that kids are involved has hit
me in a soft spot. Many people here have done a lot for my boys so I'm torn. What do you guys think?

I would say keep it, you won it fair and square. It isn't your fault that it didn't go for as much as the guy wanted. If he wanted $300 for it he
should have put a reserve on it. Just my opinion.

considering he probably paid 100 each for them from hick-mart its a tough decision. On one hand he should have started the bidding higher but he is trying to
do something nice for his kids. Tell him to send the track at the agreed price and link him to a 99$ scaley set. Yeah I would be a jerk about it only because
he should have known better

I would say if he wanted more for it he should have put a reserve on it. I've sold things on eBay and didn't get what I thought I should have but a
deal is a deal.
just my 2cents
common sense is not common

Well, you really aren't obligated to do anything other than follow through on the deal. However, if you feel like you really want to help in some way then
you might consider throwing him a bone. Since yours was the only bid I'm assuming your maximum bid was more than $125. You might consider giving him an
amount maybe half way between $125 and whatever your max bid was. That way you're still getting a better deal than you were prepared to get, and he gets a
little more than he's getting now. He ought to be very appreciative if you choose to do something like this. You've done nothing wrong and don't
owe him anything. He was just unwise at playing the game.

The sad fact is, you actually paid MARKET prices for his wares...its like the lament of someone who buys a new Corvette, drives it OFF the car lot and BOOM:
it's now worth 20% less at least...the fact he paid retail has no bearing on what you won the bid for.
So, either pay him the final price, fair and square...OR...walk away from the deal and let him try again...chances are he may get less...he may get more...but I would probably avoid the whole deal myself...can you imagine if walmart said to you once you got to the cash register: "gee, that's such a good deal...you could afford to pay an extra dollar I am sure" Cheers, Mike |

He has been on ebay for some time, buying and selling. By this time he should know what he is doing. If it went for $500 would he give you back the extra
$200?

In the spirt of Easter. I guess you could just walk away from the deal and let him keep it if you wanted to be very nice. But it's not your fault this guy
doesn't know how to use ebay to protect himself from selling for less than he is willing to take. I am not sure how much all that stuff retails for but if
your purchase was at least 50% of retail thats a pretty fair price. Depends how old everything is as well.
It also depends a little if you were going to keep it to enjoy or turn around and sell it. I'm a nice guy so I would probably walk away from the deal but I would be a little anger. I'd tell him you better not see it on ebay again without a reserve or you would report him. If he ends up not selling it on ebay at reserve he can always accept your offer. |

The guy has B**ls asking for more $$$......
Anyone can restore a classic car, but it takes a real Hotrodder to cut one up and make it cool!

It's an auction. He should have set a reserve or a higher minimum bid. It's not hard to do. I'd report his arse.
I've sold on E-Bay. Of *course* I'd like to see what I sell got for more than it did... wouldn't you? Look. If you feel guilt over this, which is why I'm guessing you're posting here, I feel bad for you. I too have a soft spot for kids, and consdier myself a pretty decent and kind guy, being an educator and all, but I do not have a soft spot and am not kind to people selling something then trying to chisel someone...
