Good stuff, Harry. I didn't even notice the pinion gear issue on mine. Need to check that out.
Another A-1 review. |

Another excellent review Harry! Yes they will require some work, but man these cars are fantastic to look at..
You're right, just a few years ago we never would have believed that we
would have cars like this available to us.
So did you remove any of the wheels from the axle? Or can you confirm that we're dealing with knurled axles before I start tinkering. Thanks |

Excellent review as always Harry, as well as helpful tuning tips and I like the comparison to the Fly Classics, with tuning, these have been very fun, without
having to spend alot of money on aftermarket tuning parts.
I was hoping for something different to run, to expand my small car world, I could not get myself to purchase the modern style Nascars (I tried, but the small car freak that I am couldn't do it), but these Classic Nascars have bridged a gap for me, and are great fun, with the beautiful classic lines. Thank You |

Thanks guys, appreciate it.
Yes the axle is knurled sir. And I managed to split a wheel. Since I felt it was my fat-fingered fault I did not mention it as other wheels were taken off with no incident. If you break one, the sleeve method works fine. "They Didn't Say You Couldn't" - Smokey Yunick

Nice write up Chief, and thanks for the tip on lapping the gears!

Warning...... these are straight knurled axles, the wheels and gear pull straight off. Do not twist as you pull or damage to the wheel will result.
BTW......... Great review Harry.........

Thanks for the review Harry. I worked on my car and I'm enjoying Monogram's NASCAR. Can't beat the price. Keep them coming. On a side note,
It's been two months since I put a car on the track until now. Thanks to Monogram, I'm back running at least this car on my wood oval. Something that
I did that made a big difference was adding a flat piece of lead to the belly (inside)of the chassis. It covers the whole cavity. You have to remove the
plastic that sticks up in the middle so that the lead can lay flat. Also, I removed the lip on the chassis posts so the that the body can float more on the
chassis. The track surface was dusty, but the car ran well. It's great seeing this car going in and out of the banks. I might put one more piece of lead
(small) behind the back magnet holder under the chassis. But I like my cars on the lighter side. New tires might make a difference, but I'm going to clean
my track first. The tires were better as I put more laps on the car. Also, I'm going to make some tires this week.
Guys, buy the cars. It's a great deal. Once again, you can't beat the price. Look around, some companies are offering cars as kits and charging the same as if it was built. (Even white body cars) I guess it cost more money to put the parts in the box. Right!

If you want to change wheels, Al's BWA 3202/1 are the same size. I think there's several tires that fit this wheel.

Tony Stewart recommends that you reconsider if you are thinking about replacing the tires with a set of Goodyear's.

Another thorough and excellent review, Harry
Yesterday it was finally warm enough outside to run some laps on my track without any chattering - not the cars...me - and really enjoyed running the pair lap after lap. Had me flashing back to '65 and the first race my father and I went to - a Wednesday night race at Islip Speedway...for NASCAR Grand Nationals (who says NASCAR was just a "Southern" series back in the day...). Had to look up the "numbers", but do remember Marvin Panch leading all the way from the pole he took at the asphalt blistering speed of 51 mph on this 2/10th's of a mile track...the shortest short track NASCAR ever ran (1964-1971). Surprisingly for such a short track and the number of cars racing (20 to 30+ over the years), though there was lots of beatin' & bangin' going on, there wasn't that many yellows for crashes over the years they ran there...lots of DNF's as was the case back then, but lots of green flag to the checkers racing - then again, the races were over in about an hour as they only ran 50-60 miles total.
