I know most of you use the RTR chassis such as Parma, etc., that are in abundance in our hobby, but for me they can get very expensive very fast and I'm also not sure about them on plastic track? Do they work well on Carrera track? Don't most of them have sponge tires? Again, this is new to me as all of my cars have rubber tires. Inserts are also an issue. I know there are mfg's who make all of this pretty simple but it does cost.
I usually try and look for a kit that is meant to be motorized. They have a motor mount and gears along with the correct wheel and softer tires that seem to grip better than normal model tires. My problem is trying to convert and tune these into slot cars. Getting the guide right is always tough as is balancing the car to run well. Are there any other folks out there who have gone down this path? If so, what, if anything can you pass along that might help. I know the RTR chassis are probably the easiest but I just don't have the budget for them.
