1/43 die cast question |
Lead | |
|
I've been looking, for about a month now, at adding 1/43 diecast cars to my inventory. Is there a market for 1/43 diecast or for that matter 1/32 diecast
in the slot car world. And if so what is the average price for a 1/43 diecast car. Ya'll been doing this alot longer than I have so I figured this would be
the best place to do market research.

i onlyl bought 1/43rd diecasts to do my vac-forms from them.
the priciest were the GT40 and the 917 with app.15 euros. i have 4 diecasts converted to slots, not bad, but heavy. |

I use some die casts for a dedicated figure-8 class. Speed doesn't matter in this type of race.
The only other use for diecasts would be as vac-form bucks, and I frequently send choice dcs to some of the forum's excellent vaccers. BTW, if you can locate an inexpensive Avanti, I'd love to have that vacced into a Saturday night stocker.... Nerf |

Take look at Liberty's track layout. 90% of those cars are diecast. We mainly use the diecast to do vac forming from. the reason behind that is nobody
wants to make the really nice 1/43 slot cars like they do for 1/32 so we do what we have to. If that means tearing apart a $15 diecast to get what we want
thats what we do. that way everbody has a chance to have that car. the only down fall to this is that we don't have a good source for decals that look
authentic. My guess would be that nobody wants to spend the money on an Alps printer to do decals since there really expensive.
GOTTA SLOW DOWN TO GO FAST!

You're right M1.
As far as decals, I have pretty good luck with clear vinyl and Testors decal kits. Expensive (Testor's) but you can make custom decals you can't buy easily or cheaply. I have to do it twice sometimes, but that is part of the fun.

I have a die cast slot bus on a polyfect chassis and the rest of my die casts are of the non slot support variety. All but the bus came from ebay for a couple
of bucks for the ambulances and some of the wreckers to 25.00 for the McDonalds roach coach.

Right now a lot of the die cast cars on edbay have gone up in price. There are a couple newer vendors from Asia that have been flooding the listings and have
the shipping costs slightly inflated. If I knew a vendor would give me a fair price and not gouge on shipping, I
would definitely do business with them. There is one vendor that I used for a while for diecast cars but their inventory listing hasn't changed for quite
some time.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained! |

I just found this place - http://www.constructionscalemodels.com/ turns out its less than a mile from me! Great selection of diecast - they might be worth some info. Otherwise, I'll mule goods for beer. |

I th8ink ebay is the best bet for 1/43 diecast | ||
|
I think ebay is the best bet for 1/43 diecast stuff. but like Lib said watch the shipping charges. If I buy a diecast on ebay (depending on how bad I want it
obviously) I look to pay about $6 TOTAL - a couple bucks for the car and 3 or 4 dollars to ship it. As far as a market for diecast in slot cars - I think the
biggest is for scenery and vac-forming. there are only a few who enjoy converting diecasts to runners.

Thanks for the input guys. I dont think I would be able to sell them for $6 though. The price would probably between $8 and $9
