I want to buy a slot car track set for my two sons 8 and 9 respectively. My objective is to buy a simple good quality set in the price range of $150 to
$250. As you can imagine, a small child can be rough, so I want to be able to purchase replacement parts easily in U.S. For instance, which size, 1/32 or 1/24?
which brand Ninco, Scalextric, Carrera, others?
Your comments are greatly appreciated.

For what you want, go with Artin. The cars can take a beating and you can't beat the price! I started with an Artin set years ago. You can run every brand
of 1/32 car on it. Later if you want to update the controllers or power supply, ( Every one wants to, know matter what brand set you buy! ) it is easy to do.
This forum is loaded with information on how to and how to do it. Brian at www.brshobbies.com has the Artin sets. Also Frank at www.slotcarworld.com If you compare prices, you will see what I mean! If money is no problem, shoot for the moon with any of the other sets they are all good! Art  Love that spell checker!!!!

Artin is tuff,well made track.I've had em all,they all have good points,and bad points.But,methinks artin is the best buy for the money.The cars lack some of the detail others have,but hey,there's lees to break off

I would recommend a Scalextric Sport set. In my opinion it is much nicer. Once you get into slot cars it is adicting and you will wish you started with a nicer set. I have a 5 yr old son & 7 yr old daughter and both of them play with it all the time. We started in Nov. 07 and have 50 cars already. There are some very basic, tough scalextic cars, Porsche Boxters, Lamborghini Gallardo and Ferrari F430. Whatever you choose they are all fun. Many on line sites are running sales. Try Fantasy World Hobbies, Professor Motor, Hot Slots 132 or any of the advertisers on this site. Good Luck!

You've gotten some very good recommendations and I agree. Artin is a great starer set. Scaley is one of the best. Another option is Jiada. Its the best value out there. Most track for the money. 33ft set for $168 including shipping. Heres a link to a review that Harry and Dickie did on it last year http://www.homeracingworld.com/jiadaraceset.htm . I do agree, with kids that age, Artin cars is probably the way to go.

Personally, I'd go with Scalextric, although I haven't personally tried Jiada. I've raced and played with Artin, and I'd say if you can afford
the step up to Scalextric, then it's worth it. The cars are nicer than Artin (both in detail and performance) and that does make a difference. But if
you're only interested in price, then I'd actually try Jiada. A longer track is a better track (generally speaking). Jiada seems the best value for the
money, and I'd trust the reviews on Jiada here at HRW.

I'm not a fan of Scalextric track. While it is a fine product, is used around the globe extensively, and can take some abuse due it's rubbery nature,
I've just found too many cars that won't run in its narrow slots. Now, if you want to stick to Scalextric cars, there is nothing wrong with that idea.
Their cars are awesome in terms of both performance and detail, IMO.
I also find Scalextric track more difficult to put together/take apart than Artin. Maybe I just have not learned the technique, and maybe it's the arthritis in my fingers, but I've found it more difficult. I'd like to see Jiada sometime, just to compare the track. I won't change from Artin track, but am always open to new car makers. dennis |

Whatever brand you choose I know that your gonna have a great time. If you choose Jiada I would get the Rally Cars. I like the F1's but I'm afraid the wing may break off it took a hard impact. of Course I can very easily put in two Artin stockers in place of the Jiada cars |

The jiada is good track,and is about the cheapest thing going..It does have the same set up (slot width)as scaley.
Now The Jiada rally cars are a ton of fun to run.I've got one and plan on getting some more. Very Tuff,fun to slide around the curves,4 wheel drive cars,somewhat like the older SCX rally cars. The main reason I like the artin track,is that all cars will run on it,and it;s easy to put together.I'm not trying to knock any other brand, just putting in my 2 cents worth

I have narrow it down to the Scalextric Formula One Set or the Scalextric Rally Pro Set. The first is longer (22 ft,6.75m) and has a 90 deg crossover, cool says my son!!. My only concern is that the cars that come with the F1 set appear to be more fragile than the rally cars. There is plenty of information on both sets. I found online information on Artin 2-lane sets very scarce. As for the price, it's not that price is not a concern, but I am willing to pay a bit extra to enjoy a quality set. Cheers, Eduardo |
